After years of doing nails, I started noticing a pattern…

Some clients’ BIAB lifted at the free edge, others didn’t. I’d prep the nails the same way, use the same products, and still… when they returned, I’d notice the lifting.

Then I realised the difference: it was often the clients who tanned regularly. The tanning products (the DHA and oils) were getting around the free edge and interfering with the bond.

Not all oils are bad though. Oils in cuticle oil actually soak into the nail, keeping it hydrated and helping your BIAB last longer. It’s just the surface oils from tanning products (or sometimes hand creams or skincare left on the tips) that sit on top and weaken the adhesion.

There’s so many other things that can cause lifting too… but that’s a whole kettle of fish 🐟

💡 Clients who tan — take note!
• Tan the day before your appointment
• Apply cuticle oil before tanning
• Wipe excess tan from nails & free edge
• Opt for a water based tan instead of oil based
