Let’s talk lightening: both of these clients have the same level 6 natural base. Both were lightened with same lightener: blondor and 30 volume. As you can see the virgin hair lifted beautifully, a gorgeous and even canvas. (I’m calling it virgin, but the ends were previously lightened. The new growth that I lightened was virgin) Notice how uneven and brassy the previously colored hair is? This client has what we call “banding” due to color buildup and will need multiple sessions to get to a bright blonde. I use these visuals to educate my clients so they understand that while I’m doing my best to achieve their hair goals, sometimes the hair won’t allow it. If you are working with a stylist and you feel like it’s taking forever to get to your goal, just know that these situations are common! (And frustrating, we understand.) Trust your stylist and the process. Colour maintenance

This is such a major discussion - those Pinterest pics all us hairdressers get sent daily, yes they look lovely but what do they take to not only achieve but to maintain. My most requested blonde is a scalp bleach, why? because its the blondest you can be but also the most high maintenance. ⁣
⁣
1. Fashion shades- greys, pinks, purple etc. They need very regular up keep to look fresh. The less washing the better- they will fade wash after wash, and in most cases be gone after a few washes.⁣

⁣
2. Full head bleach- the lightest most high impact blonde, needs very regular appointments to avoid banding. It causes the most stress on the hair so good at home maintenance is key. ⁣

3. Covering sparkles- again to keep the colour consistent roots will need touching up every 4-6 weeks. This goes for dark roots in general, they require much more up keep than leaving it natural- yes the pics looks great with blonde ends and dark roots but they need maintaining more.⁣

4. Highlights leave a softer regrowth than a demarcation line from tint grow out, the lighter the blonde the higher the maintenance. ⁣

5. Balayage is lowest maintenance with a soft grow out- however you may opt for a gloss treatment in between visits to keep it look fresh.⁣

Please remember colour is not invincible, if you’re leaving it too long between appointments and not using an amazing home hair care routine then don’t expect to be looking like a Pinterest hair pic (or ask your hairdresser to make you look like one)😉👌🏻 ⁣
