This photo was taken straight after treatment, before any swelling had started. By the time my client got home, her lips had become much more swollen – something I always prepare clients for.

Swelling is a completely normal part of the healing process. Your body naturally sends extra blood flow and fluid to the area after treatment, and for many people, the swelling is actually at its peak later that evening or the following morning.

So if you’re thinking about lip filler, don’t panic if they look bigger after you leave the clinic. The swelling settles, the filler softens, and your final result takes shape over the following days.

A few hours later, her lips became noticeably more swollen – and that’s completely normal. Lip filler creates tiny controlled trauma within the tissue, so your body’s natural healing response sends extra blood flow and fluid to the area. This inflammation is exactly why swelling happens.

Everyone swells differently. Some clients have very little swelling, while others can swell quite a lot for the first 24–48 hours. The final result isn’t judged on day one. As the swelling settles over the next few days, the lips soften, refine, and reveal their true shape.
