What an honour it was to look after your bridal party yesterday and then share your evening with you last night. Thank you for choosing me as your stylist.

This is another side to my work away from teaching and it’s one I absolutely adore. I wish I had more time to devote to it.

Having a bride trust you with hair for them and their bridal party is an honour like no other. Yes it brings a whole new level of nerves (especially when you’re first starting out) but it’s because we care so much.

I get to have a glimpse into someone else’s big day and witness everything from tears and laughter to unforgettable moments like dad and daughter and bridesmaid dress reveal. Stacie’s dad bless him was reduced to a sobbing mess after his moment with his little girl yesterday laid it took me back to my moment with my dad in my own wedding day.

Let’s not forget why we decided to step behind the chair in the first place.

As much as I harp on about pricing, numbers, and knowing what’s coming into your business and what’s going out… THIS is the reason why.

Our clients.

Making them feel and look a million dollars. Seeing the joy on their face when you turn that mirror around and show them what you’ve created.

Never forget—these people in our chairs are what make this job what it is. Without them, we are nothing.

A strong pricing strategy and solid business knowledge are essential… but what should always come first is the trust these incredible people place in us, day in, day out.

I’m not here to make anyone feel inadequate or to call out brands for the cost of product. I’m here to speak up and be the voice of all those ridiculously talented hairdressers out there who are massively under selling themselves for fear of losing clients, upsetting people with a much needed price increase or even, god forbid wanting to pay themselves a wage that warrants their skill set.

I’m here to be the reality check we need for salon owners not paying staff what they deserve because their numbers don’t add up because there’s no pricing strategy or the salon owners that walk away empty handed at the end of the month because they are incredible leaders and supporting their team financially but there’s sod all left for them at the end of it.

This industry needs a shake up, we need to admit there’s a fundamental problem with pricing and our self worth because it’s not properly taught. If this has hit a nerve or sparked something you to want to make a change, save this post, tag a friend who needs to hear this and drop me a comment and let’s have an open discussion about it.

Ā£66.74 in product cost alone. I’m still seeing salons and stylists charging under Ā£100 for work like this. I love my job but I want paying what I’m worth and you should to!!

LET’S BE HONEST FOR A SECOND!

If you’ve never properly broken down your costs for a full head colour like this….. chances are you’re undercharging AND losing money.

You’re covering SOME costs and donating your time.

Ā£42.75 just in colour.
Before gloves, foil, shampoo, conditioner, electricity, rent, insurance….

Before your 45 minute application time.
Before the 3.5 hours you’ve blocked out…
Before your skill, experience, your decision making.

And I’d put money on it before you’re paid yourself. šŸ¤”

šŸ›‘ This industry has normalised undercharging to the point where hard working stylists are fully booked and still broke.

āœ‹šŸ» Busy doesn’t mean profitable.

So ask yourself honestly - WHAT are you actually charging for?

šŸ’¾ Save this for next time you feel ā€œtoo expensiveā€ and send it to a hairdresser friend who needs this reality check and to remember they ARE worth it.

Massive shoutout to . Without the calculator, even I’d lose my bottle when it comes to this sort of stuff. Once you see it on screen, the reality is like a slap in the face (in a good way). Thanks for all you’re doing.

As most of us are dealing with year end. Now is the time to look at what’s come in VS what you’ve paid out.

Stock take - how much money is actually on the shelves

Percentage of spend. Do you actually know what you’re spending and what your % of spend against your revenue should be?
