I often get asked how I find the motivation to run as frequently as I do!
Honest answer isâŚ.. it is very rarely motivation, if I relied on this alone I wouldnât go much at all! RunningâŚ.. exerciseâŚ.. moving my body has become a daily habit. Itâs part of my daily routine like, having a cup of tea when I wake up, brushing my teeth, making breakfast and pe***ng the washing out.
Why have I made it part of my routine? Even though at times I really donât want to, like when itâs raining, or Iâve had a busy day, late night, I donât want to have to wash my hair! I know that it will be worth it and itâs good for me. Not just physically but it has become my time for me, to process the day ahead ( or yesterday), a space away from the noise, a space where no one needs me.
As I was running this morning I was processing what it means to have this time. As I looked around I thought WOW! Just over a month ago all the trees, plants and grass were dry, brown, dead. Now they are thriving, green, lush and looking healthy. The planet is amazing and I feel privileged to have this time to appreciate it.
Running multiple times a week has also made me so much more aware of the changing seasons. Today I saw many signs of autumn. I love this time year, watching the trees change colour and wondering at how nature knows just what to do to survive.
So all in all, relying on motivation alone wonât keep you doing something, itâs needs to become a habit, have a purpose and provide meaning.
What habits have you created to help you through your day or week?

Every part of your body has a specific role to play. When one structure isnât able to perform its job effectively, the body is incredibly adaptable and can recruit other muscles, joints, ligaments, or tendons to help â or even temporarily take over that role.
This compensation is a normal and useful part of the recovery process. For example, if a muscle, joint, ligament, or tendon is injured or lacking strength, other structures may step in to support movement while it recovers.
However, compensation is only intended to be a short-term solution. If the original structure doesnât return to functioning properly, the body can continue relying on these alternative structures, eventually leading to overcompensation. This can place unnecessary stress on areas that werenât designed to perform that role long-term.
The body likes movement! These exercises take the body into positions that we donât normally use from day to day. These movements become restricted and we feel âtightâ. A little daily movement in ways we wouldnât normally move will maintain mobility in those joints, ligaments, tendons and muscles.

If you as massage therapist could physically alter a personâs muscles by applying pressure then your body isnât really that robustâŚâŚâŚ BUT it actually is and we donât!
We help your body relax and do its own thing to reduce tension. We make the nervous system feel safe and then the body lets go.
