Really interesting article on the illegality of remote prescribing and the continued non compliance from some practitioners within the Aesthetics industry.

• guidelines from the NMC, GMC, GDC, and GPhC agree that the practice of remote prescribing within aesthetics is not permitted.

• “By allowing non healthcare professionals to supply restricted medicines, it places members of the public at risk, particularly as these non prescribers are not equipped to recognise adverse effects, let alone manage them.”

I don’t post on here often … and there are a few reasons why:

• I work full time as an ANP in General Practice, and it takes a lot of time, energy and mental capacity to be able to do that to the best of my ability. Unfortunately that means my capacity for posting on social media is very low.

• I have a young family. As most working parents will understand, it’s really hard to get a good work/life balance, and what ‘free’ time I carve out of my working week, I like to spend on my family.

• You have to be very careful what and how you advertise aesthetics. The injections that relax wrinkles use a prescription only medicine, meaning it’s ILLEGAL to advertise them, show before/after photos or offer deals.

• I don’t feel the need to push or influence people into something they may not need. If someone wants support or advice in this area then I believe they will reach out to me for it. I’m more than happy to consult that patient professionally rather than them being force fed often false information on social media.

SPF isn’t just for summer! However, given the extreme weather warnings that have been issued I thought this would be a timely reminder of the importance of protecting your skin from harmful rays! ☀️

A friendly reminder that as we experience hot weather in the UK this week, it is so important to remember to put on SPF!
The top tips are:
1. Wear sunscreen with SPF30 or higher.
2. Cover up as much skin as possible with clothing and a hat
3. Wear sunglasses to protect your eyes
4. Seek shade between 11am and 3pm when the sun is at its strongest

Let’s do some myth busting!

This is important in Aesthetic medicine because myths can lead to wrong information, which in turn can lead to people not being able to make the safe and correct choice for their treatment!

Myth:

“There’s a shortage of Botox”

Truth:

there is a shortage of Azzalure… azzalure is one BRAND of botulinum toxin Type A. And yes, there is a shortage of Azzalure.

BOTOX, the brand of botulinum toxin type A manufactured by Allegan that we use in clinic has no issues with stock.

Lesson:

The word ‘BOTOX’ should refer to the brand of botulinum toxin type A and not the procedure!
