I see ohh so many clients that suffer from ingrown toenails due to incorrect cutting, picking & self surgery! Please read as they are easily avoided 🥰

To prevent ingrown toenails, trim nails straight across without rounding corners, avoid cutting them too short, and wear well-fitting shoes with ample toe room.

Keep feet clean and dry to reduce infection risk, and avoid picking at skin around the nails. For high-risk activities, wear protective footwear.

Key Preventative Measures

Proper Trimming - Cut toenails straight across to prevent corners from digging into the skin. Do not round the corners or cut them too short, as this encourages the nail to grow into the surrounding skin.

Correct Footwear - Wear shoes that fit properly, ensuring there is enough room for toes to wiggle without being compressed. Avoid consistently tight or pointed shoes, which cause the toes to press against the nail.

Foot Hygiene - Keep feet clean and dry, which helps maintain skin health and prevents inflammation.

Avoid Self-Surgery - Do not pick at, tear, or use sharp instruments to dig under the toenails, as this can cause inflammation and encourage growth of the skin around the nail edge.

Regular Inspections - Periodically check your feet, particularly if you have diabetes or poor circulation, and consult a professional for proper nail care if needed.

If you suspect an early ingrown nail!

Soak feet - Soak feet in warm, soapy water for 10 to 20 minutes, 3 to 4 times a day.

Keep dry - Ensure feet remain dry between soakings.

Use proper footwear - Wear open-toed shoes or sandals until the toe feels better.

See a professional: Seek care from a professional if the condition does not improve or shows signs of infection like severe pain, redness, swelling, or pus.
