but as a nail professional, I focus just as much on removal.

There was one little detail on these nails that made me nervous…

The bow. 🎀

I’ve painted bows before, but this one was a little more detailed than the ones I’d done previously. And, typically, I hadn’t had time to practise it beforehand.

Which meant that little voice in my head started doing its thing…

Can I actually do this?

So I took a breath and painted it anyway.

Is it perfect? No. I know exactly what I’d do differently next time, and I’m already thinking about how I could make it even better.

But the set as a whole? I absolutely love.

And, most importantly, so did my client. 🩷🩷🩷

I think sometimes we forget that being experienced doesn’t mean never feeling nervous or never having something to improve.

It just means trusting yourself enough to have a go.

And sometimes the things that make us nervous turn out rather beautifully.

Sam loves her nails long. No compromise.

And there can be tears and tantrums when one gets damaged. 😂

At Sam m’s recent appointment, one nail had broken and was considerably shorter than the rest.

Waiting for it to grow out wasn’t on the agenda.

So, using a Gelish Soft Gel Full Cover Tip, I was able to restore the length in just a few minutes, before finishing the set and getting everything back to looking as it should.

One broken nail. No compromise.

MEET ARTHUR

Arthur has been sitting in the salon chair for almost nine years now.
Almost to the day.

He arrived as a puppy and very quickly became a firm favourite with my clients.

He sleeps for most of the day, but somehow always knows when the next visitor is arriving and suddenly he’s wide awake and ready to say hello.

He may not do much actual work, but he’s been part of the salon for years … and I can’t imagine it without him.

Some favourites deserve a little reinvention. 🍁🍁🍁

This autumn leaves design has been a hit in the salon year after year.

I could simply bring it back exactly as it was… but where’s the fun in that?

So, once again, I’ve been playing with colours, finishes and a few new products to create this year’s version.

It’s familiar enough to be loved, but different enough to feel new.

Now it’s going into the autumn art box, ready for the season ahead and hopefully ready to make a few of my clients smile all over again.

So, when does autumn start?

Well, for me, much earlier in the salon than 23rd September.

It starts with hunting out all those gorgeous autumn colours from the cupboards, giving every bottle a clean, refreshing the little cap swatches and deciding how I want the colour rack to look.

Then there are the designs.

I pull out some favourites from last year, think about how I can give them a little twist, and create a few new ideas too.

And it all happens in between clients, so this is very much a gradual transition rather than an overnight change.

Because I want inspiration for every client - those who are already ready for autumn, and those who are determined to hang on to summer for just a little bit longer. ☀️🍂

After all, the calendar might say autumn, but your nails don’t have to.

Good morning, Nail Day! 🩷

Every morning, this is the message that lands in my clients’ inboxes.

It started as a simple, polite reminder of their appointment but over the years it’s become something a little more.

I know it raises a smile.

Because for quite a few of my clients, Nail Day really is their favourite day. 🙂

And I completely understand why.

Life is busy. There’s always something that needs doing, someone who needs us, somewhere we need to be.

So that little bit of time in the salon can be about more than just having your nails done.

It’s time to stop.

To sit down.

To chat, laugh, switch off and have someone look after you for a change.

Sometimes self-care doesn’t need to be elaborate or extravagant.

Sometimes it’s simply knowing that today is Nail Day.

And knowing that someone is looking forward to seeing you.

I think I’ve found my perfect colour for September… 💙

And possibly my perfect design too.

A gorgeous mid- blue, finished with matte polka dots.

It feels like the perfect September compromise to me.

I’m not quite ready to give up totally on summer but these go perfectly with jeans and a t-shirt.
