I’m going to share some reality behind being a nail tech because I feel like we see so many gorgeous sets but no one really talks about what it takes and how much time it takes to get to the end goal 🍇🥀

This set took me 2 hours, yes, 2 hours, I did not in fact have 2 hours booked out, I had 1.5 hours booked out, it was just as well my client was the last of the day 🕰️

So, why did it take me 2 hours??

First up, the brief (mini nail consultation) what are we doing today?? I did already have a heads up on this - short dark and soft, we then started removal of 90% of previous product and length reduction, my client went from extreme regrowth (around 4/5 weeks).

Let’s get down to business, we then prepped the nail, now, some of you might think this is simply trimming the cuticle, buffing the nail and we’re ready. Well I’m here to tell you that is actually incorrect, prep of the nail includes

✨assessment of the skin
✨lifting the cuticle
✨removal of any cuticle from the nail plate
✨refining any product build up and the natural nail
✨selecting the correct efile bit for cleaning the cuticle pocket
✨ trimming the cuticle
✨ cleaning and dehydrating the skin and nail plate

This is BEFORE we even start painting, at this point we are basically an hour in to the appointment, you see where I’m going with this.

That then leaves base, builder, colour, top coat, sounds easy right?? Sorry to be the one to spoil the news but no, absolutely not easy, painting with dark colours make me SWEAT because that colour needs to be tucked (or as close to as possible if the client has no cuticle pocket)

Oh you think we’re done?? No sorry, we now have to shape and finish file, wash hands and then lotion, for the purpose of these photos I actually didn’t add hand cream and full disclosure I’m pretty certain I forgot to do it after a full on photo shot.

Yep, 2 hours for all of that, continuous work, so nope, not “just nails”
