My ingrown hair aftercare study just made it into print.
I’m Tracey Park, owner of The Waxing Studio Milton Keynes and an Intimate Wax and Advanced Ingrown Hair Specialist with over 20 years in the industry.
Professional Beauty magazine’s July/August issue features the research I ran over 10 weeks with 8 clients and 7 aftercare brands. I wanted proof, not just a leaflet clients nod at and forget about. So I tracked real skin, real timelines and real feedback from start to finish.
Every product range I tested showed improvement, but only when clients actually used it. That was the real finding. Consistency mattered more than which brand sat in the bathroom cabinet.
Thank you to the seven brands who agreed to be tested honestly, with no promises attached: Nkd Products, Ashmira Botanica, Harley Waxing, GiGi, Clean & Easy, Perron Rigot and ItalWax.
You can read the full feature on page 60 of Professional Beauty, July/August 2026.
Aftercare isn’t an add-on. It’s half the treatment.

Booked your wax right before you fly? Let’s fix that.
I’m Tracey, Intimate Wax & Advanced Ingrown Hair Specialist with over 20 years behind the couch.
Here’s the bit people skip past: waxing opens the follicle. For about 48 hours that skin is raw in a way you can’t see but can absolutely feel if you put it straight under strong sun or into a chlorinated pool. Irritation, dark marks, sometimes both.
Two days. That’s all it takes for it to calm down properly.
So if the holiday’s booked, get your wax booked earlier than you think you need to. Not the night before.

I’ve seen waxers take their gloves off to check their phone mid treatment, then put them straight back on. No hand wash. No fresh pair.
I’m Tracey, an Intimate Wax & Advanced Ingrown Hair Specialist based in Milton Keynes with over 20 years of experience.
That glove is dirty the second it comes off. It doesn’t matter what it touched in between, your phone or the door handle on the way back in.
A proper waxer changes gloves every time there’s a break in contact. Doesn’t matter if it’s quick, doesn’t matter if they’re rushing to finish on time. Every time.
Gloves on before you start. Gloves on until you finish. Bare hands never touch your skin, not even for a second.
This is one of the quietest standards in the room, and it’s one nobody tells you to look for.
Has your waxer ever taken gloves off mid appointment? What did they do next?

If you’ve ever watched the clock during a wax, wondering why it’s taking so long, you’re not being paranoid.
I’m Tracey, an Intimate Wax & Advanced Ingrown Hair Specialist based in Milton Keynes with over 20 years of experience, and pace is one of the first things I tell clients to pay attention to.
A good waxer doesn’t rush. Every pass gets checked. Every angle gets covered properly, especially through tricky areas like the Brazilian zone where hair grows in different directions. If your therapist is moving fast just to get you off the couch, that’s not skill. That’s a shortcut.
You are never rushed off the couch. Not because your waxer is slow, but because they’re thorough. Ingrown hairs often start with missed hairs from a rushed session, not bad skin.
Time taken is not time wasted. It’s the difference between a smooth finish and a patch you’ll be dealing with in ten days.
Follow along if you want to know exactly what to expect before, during and after so there are no surprises.
Ever sat there wondering if your waxer was going too fast?

You’ve decided exfoliating doesn’t work for you. It does. You quit the week it started working.
I’m Tracey, an Intimate Wax and Advanced Ingrown Hair Specialist in Milton Keynes with over 20 years of experience.
Exfoliating was never fixing your ingrown hairs. It was managing them. Smooth skin feels like the problem’s gone, so the routine gets dropped. That’s the exact moment it comes back.
Your skin sheds dead cells all day. Stop clearing them and they settle back over the follicle. The follicle caps over. Your new hair grows up, hits that layer, can’t break the surface, so it curls under. That’s your ingrown. And your hair never stops growing, so there’s always another one behind it.
Exfoliation keeps that dead layer thin enough for hair to surface cleanly. Skip a week and it rebuilds. Nothing got cured. The upkeep just paused.
So the “it worked for a bit then stopped” story? It didn’t stop working. You stopped.
Follow for the waxing details most people learn the hard way.
Be honest, how many days after your skin goes smooth do you quietly stop exfoliating?

Nobody ever taught you what a good intimate wax should feel like.
I’m Tracey, an Intimate Wax & Advanced Ingrown Hair Specialist based in Milton Keynes with over 20 years of experience. I’m here to give you the education most therapists never bother with, so you know exactly what’s going on under your skin and what to expect from a treatment.
So you’ve had nothing to measure against. You booked in hoping for the best, and whatever you got quietly became your normal. That’s not on you, it’s on every therapist who never explained a thing. From Friday that changes. Someone new is moving in here, and her whole reason for turning up is closing that gap for you.
Follow along so you’re never sat on that couch second-guessing yourself again.
Have you ever accepted a wax that didn’t feel right because you had nothing to compare it to? Tell me below.

If you gave up on waxing after one go, you quit right before the good bit.
I’m Tracey, an Intimate Wax & Advanced Ingrown Hair Specialist based in Milton Keynes with over 20 years of experience. I’m here to give you the education most therapists never bother with, so you know exactly what’s going on under your skin and what to expect from a treatment.
Waxing pulls the hair out from the root. Shaving slices it off at the surface. That’s the whole reason one lasts weeks and the other lasts about as long as it takes you to dry off. With a razor you see stubble in a day or two, because the hair was never gone in the first place, just shortened. With wax you get proper smooth for three to four weeks, because the hair has to grow all the way back up from the root before it even reaches the surface again.
Now, the first wax is rarely your best one, and this catches a lot of people out. Your hairs aren’t all on the same growth cycle. Some are active and some are still sitting dormant below the skin. So a few will come through sooner than you’d like, and you’ll decide it didn’t work. It did. Those were always the next hairs due to appear, wax or no wax.
Here’s where the patience pays off. When you wax on a regular cycle and resist shaving in between, the hairs start to sync up. The follicle gets a little weaker every time it’s pulled from the root. Over a few months the regrowth comes back finer and sparser, and it takes longer to push through. That’s why the longer you stick with it, the longer each result holds. Shave in between and you reset the lot.
Follow along if you’re done with the day-two stubble cycle and you want results that actually last.
Save this so you’ve got the honest answer next time someone tells you waxing isn’t worth it.
Be honest with me. How many times have you given up on waxing after a single go? No judgement, I just want to know.

Two to three days. That is the gap I wish more people left before a holiday.
I’m Tracey, an Intimate Wax and Advanced Ingrown Hair Specialist in Milton Keynes with over 20 years of experience.
Freshly waxed skin is a little raw for the first day or so. The follicles are open and the surface is tender. Wax on the morning you fly and you are putting that tender skin straight into strong sun and a swimming costume, which is exactly when you get redness and little bumps.
Leave two to three days and the skin has settled. The follicles have closed and the sensitivity has gone, so you get the smooth result without the sting. So if you are off somewhere this summer, get it done a couple of days before you travel, not the morning of the flight.
Follow along for exactly what to expect so there are no surprises. Be honest, have you ever left it to the morning of your flight?
