Dad… I never got the chance to tell you how much I love you. And I think that is what hurts me the most.

Today, I can only speak to you in my thoughts. I can visit your grave, light a candle and bring flowers, but none of that can replace the one simple thing I wish I had said while you were still here:

Now I can’t change the past. I can only remember you, speak about you, keep your memory alive and carry you in my heart.

Because after someone dies, we can bring flowers, light candles and build beautiful memorials, but none of those things can replace the words that should have been spoken while they were still alive.

So if you still have your dad, your mum or someone you love — don’t wait. Tell them today that you love them. Hug them. Call them. Don’t leave it until tomorrow.

Because now I know how deeply these words can hurt:
