Seborrhoeic keratosis are very common, harmless skin growths that often appear with age. These lesions are usually brown, black, or tan with a waxy, rough, “stuck-on” appearance.

They commonly develop on the face, chest, back, or scalp and are non-cancerous. Most do not require treatment unless they become irritated or cosmetically bothersome.

It’s important to have any skin lesions checked if they change rapidly, bleed, become painful, or look unusual, as some skin cancers can resemble seborrhoeic keratosis.

This lesion was checked and confirmed benign so we were able to remove it using short wave diathermy. The picture below shows before treatment and nicely healed two weeks later.

I’ve had this conversation thousands of times because most of us love getting out in the sun! But you can enjoy the sun and protect your skin at the same time!! Wear your SPF, reapply it when needed, wear a hat and take extra care when the sun is at it strongest in the middle of the day.

Intradermal Nevi are common, non-cancerous moles typically appearing as a raised, rubbery, skin-colored, or pale bump. They may be smooth, dome-shaped, or warty and often contain hair.

This mole was checked by dermatology and confirmed benign and safe to reduce for cosmetic purposes. We have carried out one treatment of short wave diathermy and this is the healed result, four weeks after treatment.

There was no cutting of the skin, no bleeding involved and the healing process has been straight forward.

One more treatment may be needed to get the best cosmetic result, but we will decide this after a further two weeks of healing.
