Many people are surprised to learn that an intradermal nevus (a common raised mole) on the scalp or head can often be treated successfully with short wave diathermy.

A common misconception is that moles in the hair-bearing areas of the head cannot be treated with this technique. In reality, when a lesion has been properly assessed and is suitable for treatment, short wave diathermy can be an effective option.

The treatment works by using very small and controlled amounts of electrical energy to precisely remove the lesion while minimising damage to the surrounding tissue.

As with any skin lesion, it is essential that the mole is appropriately assessed before treatment to ensure it is benign and suitable for removal. Patient safety and correct diagnosis always come first.

One of the most common things I hear at the moment is:

And my first question is always... why?

Usually the answer is because they've seen them all over social media.

Don't get me wrong, there's a place for lots of different treatments. But just because something is trending doesn't automatically make it the best option for your skin.

I often explain it like this:

If your garden isn't thriving, you can keep watering it, but without the right nutrients in the soil, the plants will never reach their full potential.

Your skin works in a very similar way.

The cells responsible for producing collagen and elastin are called fibroblasts. While polynucleotides work by encouraging tissue repair and regeneration, I often prefer to use different treatment which combines hyaluronic acid with a patented blend of amino acids.

Why? Because amino acids are the building blocks that fibroblasts need to function properly. You're essentially providing these cells with the nutrients they need to do their job, supporting collagen production, elasticity, skin quality and overall skin health.

Think of it this way: polynucleotides can be compared to giving the skin instructions to repair itself, whereas amino acids provide some of the raw materials the skin cells need to carry out that work.

Both approaches have their place, but for many of my clients supporting fibroblasts with a targeted combination of amino acids and hyaluronic acid is why this treatment remains one of my go-to options, despite whatever happens to be trending online.

That's why my recommendations are based on skin science and individual client needs, not trends.

One of the most important parts of my job isn't performing treatments, it's knowing when a different option may be better for the client.

Would it have been easier to carry out a treatment myself? Perhaps. But my priority has always been helping clients achieve the best possible outcome, even if that means recommending another clinic.

For me, it's always collaboration over competition.

This lovely client came to us with a large cherry angioma beneath their eye. It had become so prominent that they were constantly aware of it. They had been to their GP who checked the blemish thoroughly and advised that this would need to be removed privately.
