🚨Andy Burnham has announced an £8.4 billion investment in the UK’s nuclear submarine programme.

The package includes £5.9 billion for BAE Systems, with the remaining funding going to the wider supply chain to help prepare the HMS Dreadnought fleet for service in the 2030s.

He says the investment will also create 22,000 apprenticeship opportunities by 2035.

Congratulations to all the volunteers at the Brier Dene which has just been awarded a prestigious Green Flag Award.

The scheme recognises and rewards well managed parks and green spaces, setting the benchmark standard for the management of recreational outdoor spaces across the United Kingdom and around the world. Well done!

💦 Did You Know? Northumberland Square Once Had an Illuminated Fountain

Many people will remember the illuminated fountain that once stood proudly in Northumberland Square, but for those who don't, here's a little piece of North Shields history.

In 1958, local businessman Mr Irvin gifted the fountain to the town after being impressed by the way the council had transformed the square. The fountain featured two sets of water jets reaching up to 12 feet, with coloured lights projecting red, green and blue onto the water, creating a spectacular display for local families to enjoy.

It's fascinating to look back at the landmarks that have shaped our town over the years and the people who invested in making North Shields a beautiful place to live.

A little too early for a nurdle clean-up... but wow, what a sight this will be. 🌅⛵

If you're an early riser, or fancy seeing something truly special on the River Tyne, the beautiful Grossherzogin Elisabeth is expected to arrive at around 4:00am tomorrow morning.

It's moments like these that remind us why so many of us love living by the sea. Watching ships arrive on the Tyne never gets old.
