βοΈπ£ Are Your Toenails Getting Harder to Cut?
Have you noticed that cutting your toenails isnβt quite as easy as it used to be? π€
As we get older, toenails can become thicker, harder and more difficult to manage.
And when you add reduced flexibility or difficulty reaching your feet, something as simple as trimming your nails can become a real challenge!
π‘ A Few Things to Remember

β Avoid cutting nails too short
β Never dig down the sides of your nails
β Seek professional help if nail care becomes difficult
You donβt have to struggle with your toenails!

π¦Άβ¨ Hard Skin vs Callusβ¦ Whatβs the Difference?
Ever wondered whether hard skin and callus are actually the same thing? π€
The answer is⦠pretty much!
Callus is simply an area of thickened skin, usually caused by repeated pressure or friction.
Itβs particularly common on the heels and balls of your feet.
π‘ Did You Know?
β A little callus can be the skinβs natural response to pressure
β Too much can become uncomfortable
β Regular moisturising can help keep skin supple
β Professional reduction can help when callus becomes excessive
And remember, never try to cut hard skin away yourself!

π£ Painful Toenailβ¦ But Nothing to See?
Ever had a toenail that hurts, even though it looks perfectly normal? π€
Not all nail problems are immediately visible!
Sometimes, discomfort can be caused by pressure from footwear, the way a nail grows, or irritation around the nail edges.
π Things worth paying attention to:
β Tenderness when wearing shoes
β Pain when pressing around the nail
β Discomfort when walking
β A nail edge that feels uncomfortable against the skin
π‘ Donβt be tempted to dig down the sides of your nail! You could damage the skin and make things worse.

π§¦π£ Could Your Socks Be Annoying Your Feet?
We talk a lot about choosing comfortable shoes, but what you wear inside them matters too!
Socks that bunch up, have prominent seams or leave deep marks around your ankles can contribute to rubbing and pressure.
Next time you get dressed, take a moment to check:
β Your socks sit smoothly without wrinkles
β Toe seams arenβt rubbing sensitive areas
β The elastic isnβt uncomfortably tight
β Your socks fit properly rather than sliding around
β You change them if they become damp
A small change in your socks could make your shoes feel much more comfortable!

ποΈπ£ Buying New Shoes? Timing Matters!
Did you know your feet can be slightly larger later in the day?
Itβs normal for feet to change a little in volume as the day goes on, particularly after youβve been standing or walking. That means shoes that feel perfect first thing in the morning might feel tighter several hours later.
π When trying on new shoes:
β Consider shopping later in the day
β Try on both shoes, as your feet may not be exactly the same size
β Wear the type of socks youβll normally wear with them
β Make sure your toes have enough room
β Donβt rely on uncomfortable shoes eventually βstretching inβ
A shoe should fit your foot comfortably, not the other way around!

βοΈπ£ Would You Share Your Toothbrush? What About Your Nail Clippers?
Probably not to the first one⦠but nail clippers often get shared around the family without a second thought!
Nail tools can become contaminated with microorganisms, including fungi. Sharing them may increase the chance of spreading an infection from one person to another.
A few good habits:
β Keep your nail clippers for your own use
β Clean them after use and allow them to dry
β Never share tools if you suspect a fungal nail infection
β Donβt pick or dig down the sides of your nails
And at a professional appointment? Hygiene matters there too.

πͺπ£ Thinking of Cutting That Hard Skin Off Yourself? Please Donβt!
When a patch of hard skin or a corn becomes annoying, it can be tempting to reach for a blade and try to remove it yourself.
The problem? Itβs very easy to take off healthy skin too, causing a cut, bleeding and potentially creating an entry point for infection.
Instead:
β Moisturise dry, hard skin regularly
β Avoid cutting or digging at corns yourself
β Check whether your footwear is causing pressure or rubbing
β Get troublesome hard skin or corns assessed professionally

ππ£ When Did You Last Look Inside Your Shoes?
We check the soles of our shoes when they start wearing out, but what about the insoles inside them?
Over time, insoles can become compressed, worn or uneven. This may make shoes less comfortable and can change where pressure sits under your feet.
Next time you take your shoes off, have a quick look inside:
π Is the insole worn through anywhere?
π Is one area noticeably flatter than another?
π Can you feel rough seams or damaged material?
π Have your shoes become less comfortable?
Sometimes your feet arenβt the problem. Your well loved shoes might simply be showing their age!

π₯Ύπ£ Boots Are Backβ¦ But Do They Still Fit?
Autumn is here, which means boots are coming back out of the wardrobe!
Before wearing last yearβs favourites all day, give your feet a little attention. A pair that used to feel comfortable might now rub or put pressure on different areas.
π After wearing them, check for:
β’ Red marks that donβt quickly disappear
β’ Rubbing or blisters
β’ Pressure around your toes
β’ Soreness around nails
β’ New areas of hard skin
Your footwear should feel comfortable from the start. Donβt assume painful shoes just need to be βworn inβ.

π§οΈπ£ Got Wet Shoes? Give Them Time to Dry!
Autumn weather often means wet pavements, soggy shoes and damp feet.
Putting the same pair back on before they have properly dried can leave your feet sitting in a warm, moist environment. That can irritate the skin and create favourable conditions for fungal infections such as athleteβs foot.
A few simple habits can help:
π Rotate between pairs of shoes when possible
𧦠Change out of damp socks promptly
π¬οΈ Let wet footwear dry thoroughly before wearing it again
π£ Dry carefully between your toes after washing
