Moving From Shaving to Waxing

If you want to move from shaving one area of your body to waxing there is a little bit of planning involved and some patience needed. This is because there needs to be a transitional period where you need to grow all the hairs to a ‘waxable’ length; generally about 1cm or as long as a piece of short grain rice. Although your hairs may all look about the same length, generally they aren’t. Hairs grow in cycles, so as one hair is just starting to break through the skins surface another is getting ready to be shed and another will be in the middle of its growth cycle. When you shave regularly, you are cutting all the hairs to the same length but they are still “cycling’. On average, if you are shaving an area regularly (daily or every other day’ish), you will probably need about 3 weeks of not shaving (the transitional period) to let your hair complete it’s cycles so that when you do go for your wax, your waxer can remove as many hairs as possible and give you a lovely clean finish. If you don’t allow this time to grow the hair out, you may leave your waxing appointment disappointed because there will be possibly be very short hairs that have just broken through the surface of the skin that are too small for the wax to remove. Even with hard wax, that can remove some of the tiniest hairs being 2-3mm, there is a limit to what we and our wax can do for you. So my advice is, if you are thinking of moving from shaving to waxing, call your waxer, have a chat about it and make a plan. Most importantly, if you move from shaving to waxing, don’t shave again in between waxes!! You'll undo all that good work you’ve done and expense spent. If you’re going to wax, stick to waxing, your body and your wallet will thank you.
