I had a client recently who had picked all her nails off before coming in for her appointment,
and it reminded me how many people probably don’t realise what actually happens when you do this.
When you pick product off, you can take layers of your natural nail with it.
So when I go to do your nails again, I’m potentially working on a nail that’s thinner and more damaged than it was before.
And that can affect how well your new set lasts.
I completely understand the thinking of “well, I’m getting them done anyway” — but it really does make a difference.
I want your nails to last as well as they possibly can, and the condition of the nail I’m applying product to matters.
So no matter how tempting it is to pick them before your next appointment, please try to leave them alone.
I promise there’s a reason we’re always telling you not to 😂

I think a lot of the overwhelm comes from feeling like you have to say yes to every client and every design.
Looking back, I thought I had to be able to do everything for everyone.
I thought saying, “I can’t do that yet,” meant I wasn’t good enough.
It didn’t.
It just meant I was still learning.
It’s ok to be honest with your clients.

If you’d told 16-year-old me that one day I’d own a salon and an academy, I honestly wouldn’t have believed you.
Looking back through these photos has been a bit surreal. Some of them made me laugh, some made me cringe, and some reminded me of moments I’d almost forgotten.
It’s easy to look at a business as it is today and assume it was all planned out. The truth is, Pretty Polished grew one small decision at a time.
Thank you to every client who’s trusted me with their nails, every team member who’s been part of the journey, and every student who’s trusted me to teach them.
I genuinely wouldn’t be here without you.
This story’s not over yet. I can’t wait to share what’s next with you. 💗
