Dermal fillers consists of Hyaluronic acid. This is a naturally occurring substance in the skin – a group of carbohydrates that work to help maintain its elasticity. It's what's known as a 'humectant', meaning it works like a sponge, helping the skin retain water and leaving it plumped and dewy 💦 👄.
But as we age, our natural levels of hyaluronic acid deplete, leading to dullness, loss of 'bounce' in the skin, and wrinkles.

Dermal fillers help to reduce this problem as it enhances various areas of the face, including the lips & cheeks by replacing the soft tissue loss via facial injections.

Dermal fillers are NOT permanent usually last up to 6months to 1 year however it is dependant on every uniques individual metabolism. Hence why top ups are necessary to maintain the desired look.

They can also be dissolved instantaneously if needs be.

As a Midwife, there are certain standards & principles that I am expected to abide by. 👩🏾‍⚕️ 🏥

As a registrant & a Health Care Professional, we are answerable to our governing bodies. For Midwives & Nurses that is the NMC, for Doctors it’s the GMC for Dentists it’s GDC etc, the list goes on. This is particularly important to note as we are able to give extensive levels of care ranging in its various complexity because of our identifiable pins. If we perform sub-optimally in our care we can risk losing our pins and losing our ability to practice in healthcare forever.

Why does this matter? Well Anti-wrinkle & Dermal filler treatment although effective, are both treatments that carry an element of risk so ensuring that your injector knows their anatomy, physiology & landmarks is absolutely paramount!

A good injector will never reassure you by stating that there is no risk ( if they do,run as fast as you can!😳) but rather they inform you how they MANAGE those risks! They inform you of the emergency protocols, the do’s & dont’s , the algorithm we follow etc. Just like in a hospital when we counsel you on the risks & benefits of any medical procedure.

Health care professionals are well versed in a range of complex emergency situations that we deal with in our day to day jobs.

I cannot guarantee that you’ll be risk free but I can guarantee that you’ll be in the best hands in the unlikely event of a complication!
