Sweeny Todd's Barbers

Today marks 2 years since Mark sadly passed away.

Sweeny Todds was always a massive part of his life, alongside his family of course. A lot of his customers went to him from childhood into adulthood, and were quickly not only customers but his close friends.

34 years ago, he transformed the old launderette into the original shop (next door) with the help of his dad who sadly passed a few years later. Being the entrepreneur he was, he went through lots of business ventures alongside the shop, adding sunbeds, selling clothes and even doing ladies hair - a lot of you might remember these ventures.

But barbering was his passion.

He was even using his clippers to cut his beard in hospital when really unwell and actually did a good job! But made the nurses very anxious!

We have been thinking about Mark (our dad) alot today, especially with the closing of the business tomorrow. But we know he would be proud of us and Josh, that it has carried on for a whole 2 years without him here.

So please raise a glass for him tonight 🍺

Good morning all, We are now almost in our final week of business.

We would like to invite all customers to celebrate the 34 years of business with us at The Windmill Tavern, just down the road from the shop, next Saturday 29th June from 1pm.

We will be there to raise a glass to Mark, as it is the end of an era which he started all of those years ago. And toast to Josh for his hard work over the last 8 years and continuing Marks legacy for the last 2 years since his passing.

**Important announcement to all customers**

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the closure of Sweeney Todd’s barbers after 34 years.

The business began with our dad, Mark Riley in 1990 and will close at the end of this month after Josh, our excellent barber has decided to move on from the profession into something new.

The decision to close the business hasn’t been taken lightly but with Josh moving on it is a natural end to what our dad started. Carrying on without Mark or Josh is not an option as they formed what Sweeny Todd’s was and is to this day.

We would like to thank all of our loyal customers past and present for your support and custom which has kept our business thriving.

The last day of business will be Friday 28th of June 2024.

The village is now back open!

You can now park on the street outside the barbers when coming for your appointments.

Thank you for your patience with the roadworks, Olivia.

We have been out into the village to assess the roadworks situation. Unfortunately it seems that regardless of where the works are taking place, the whole road is closed using bollards at each entrance from 9am until 5pm each day.

This is from Bradford Road by the fish shop, the newsagents and just after Windmill Drive.

Please walk to the shop if you are able and live in the village. If you need to drive, the closest you can get by car is Windmill Drive. You need to access the village by the Hough if you wish to get to there. There is a small carpark there attached to the park which may have space.

Roadworks in Northowram (19/02/24 - 01/03/24)

As you may have seen, Calderdale Council are re-surfacing the roads throughout Northowram Village between the above dates.

There will always be access to the Barbershop but the direction of this will change as the works progress. Street parking will be limited so please plan ahead and arrive at your appointment early.

The only information that we have been given so far is the below email.

We don't know the structure of the roadworks until they begin so we will be posting regular updates from tomorrow keeping you updated on the best way to access the shop.

As of Monday 19th February, we have been informed by the landlady that Sweeny Todd's customers will no longer be able to use the Shoulder of Mutton carpark.

Please ensure that you plan ahead of time to make sure you can get to your appointments.

You may also be aware that there are roadworks starting on Monday 19th which will restrict road parking. Separate post to follow.

** Closed due to weather **

Hi all, due to the worsening snow we have decided to close the shop for today. Josh will be contacting all customers booked in this afternoon after 1pm to rearrange your appointments.

Apologies for the inconvenience, we have to put the safety of josh and our customers first. We are expecting to be open as usual tomorrow.
