Post Dermal Filler Treatment Guidelines

It is important that you read and follow these  guidelines to avoid post treatment complications.

After a dermal filler treatment you may notice some swelling, bruising, tenderness and asymmetry which will subside within the next 1 to 10 days, especially if the bruising is extensive.
Dermal fillers take up to 14 days to settle until you can see the final results.
If you experience any vision loss, severe pain, discolouration or facial drooping then please contact the clinic or medical professional.

What to Avoid:

* Avoid touching or rubbing the area and do not apply make-up or any other cosmetics for at least 6 hours, untill the site is healed to avoid introducing an infection.

* Avoid exposure to direct sunlight, UV, extreme heat such as sun beds, sauna, steam rooms, hot tubs etc, as this may increase discomfort and swelling and degrade the hyaluronic acid.

* Also, avoid extreme cold; this includes ice packs that are directly applied to the skin. If necessary you can apply a cool, dry compress to the area, to reduce any discomfort or swelling.

* Try to avoid alcohol, strenuous exercise for at least 48 hours, laying flat or bending forward for at least 6 hours as this may increase the risk of swelling, bruising or filler migration.

* (Lip filler) You must not drink through a straw and be careful when eating so that you do not risk biting your lip.

*You should also avoid any facial massages or skin resurfacing until the area has fully healed (unless instructed by your practitioner).

What may Help:

*Arnica tablets/gels can be used to help reduce bruising or the application of vitamin K oxide cream.

*Antihistamines may reduce swelling.

*If you experience any lumpiness in the implantation area, it can be gently massaged with disinfected hands to help smooth this out (this is dependent on the technique used and the site that has been injected. Also, by recommendation of your practitioner only).

Before you fall in love with your augmented lips, you may wake up the next day thinking - “what have I done to my face?!?”

The following day after lip augmentation is usually the day you will experience the most swelling and bruising and the lips might look bigger than the desired result.

The filler should start integrating and lips start to settle on day 3 and the majority of patients have their lips settled on day 7. But we advise to wait for two weeks for the end result to show.
