transition does not have to be the intense, “I cannot do this!!!”, screaming and puking we’ve all been told about. sometimes it’s a quiet resistance. quietly trying to escape your body.
sometimes, it can be this. & crossing the thresholds of points in past labors you needed to reclaim. things you can’t process or heal until you literally are there. a grounding touch. a supportive encouragement from a sister. the gentle sounds of your toddler smiling and laughing at you. someone to witness you to the other side. 🦋✨
Home birth pool set up can feel a little daunting, but it’s one of those things that’s actually really simple when you know how, which is why we always recommend doing a test run beforehand.
If you’re preparing for a home water birth, here are some practical tips I always share to help you feel calm, confident, and ready:
• Clean the floor prior to set up
• Fit the liner before fully inflating the top ring
• Check your tap connector fits
• Keep your furry friends away from the pool to prevent punctures
• Add supportive touches – soft lighting, positive affirmation cards, or Aura Orbs can help you feel safe, relaxed, and in control
• When you deflate your pool, use the deflate setting on the air pump to make it easier to fold away
All of this helps create a calm, private environment where your body can relax and oxytocin can flow, the key hormone that supports labour 🤍
We offer birth pool hire nationwide, reserve in pregnancy and there’s nothing to pay until 35–37 weeks.

One of the hardest parts of labour isn’t always the contractions… sometimes it’s the pressure.
The pressure to be a certain number of centimetres by a certain time.
The pressure to “speed things up.”
The pressure to compare your birth to someone else’s.
But birth isn’t a race.
Every labour unfolds differently because every woman, every baby and every birth is different. Your body isn’t trying to meet a deadline, it’s working together with your baby to find the right rhythm.
Listening to your body, resting when you need to, moving when it feels right and staying connected to your instincts can be so much more powerful than watching the clock.
Of course, if your midwife or doctor is concerned that labour is no longer progressing safely or that you or your baby need extra support, they’ll explain why and recommend the safest next steps. Intervention has an important place when it’s needed.
But when everything is well, try to let go of the idea that your labour has to fit someone else’s timeline.
Your body knows how to birth.
Your baby knows how to be born.
Sometimes the kindest thing you can do is stop watching the clock and start trusting the process 💛
Save this for the days you need the reminder, and send it to someone preparing to meet their baby 🩷
Would you believe me if I told you these little spiky balls do more for labour pain than half the things on your hospital bag list? 👀
They’re called Aura Orbs®, and the science behind them isn’t new, it’s called the Gate Control Theory, and midwives have known about it for years.
Pain signals travel to your brain on a kind of nerve
“pathway”. Add another sensory input; pressure, texture, squeezing something with intention; and you can interrupt that pathway before pain takes over.
It’s not magic. It’s not a gimmick. It’s your nervous system, working in your favour.
Save this for the version of you that’s three weeks out and stress-Googling pain relief options 🤍

The way you spend early labour can have a huge impact on your experience and how the rest of your birth unfolds.
While every birth is different, remembering these 4 simple tips can help:
🤍 Rest whenever you can. Even if you can’t sleep, relaxing and conserving your energy will benefit you later.
🥤 Keep fuelling your body. Sip water regularly and eat little and often if you feel able. Labour is physically demanding and your body needs energy.
🕯️ Create an environment where you feel safe and calm. Dim the lights, play your favourite music, watch funny films, use familiar scents and surround yourself with comfort. The more relaxed you feel, the better your body can do its job.
✨ Have plenty of coping tools ready before you need them. A hot water bottle, warm bath or shower, TENS machine, massage, breathing techniques, the Yuula Comb and our award-winning Aura Orbs can all help you stay relaxed and work with your contractions.
Save this post for when you need it 🤍

Some days you don’t need more information. You need a reminder. You need to create your mantra.
‘I replace tension & fear with love & excitement’
‘I can’t stop the stream but I can learn to flow’
‘I can do anything for a minute’
These are the words you’ll reach for when things feel big; in the waiting room, at 3am with the contractions starting, in the moments where your brain needs somewhere calm to land. The the moments of transition when fear creeps in, just before baby arrives.
That’s exactly why we made them into cards.
Something physical to hold onto, flick through, read out loud if you need to, decorate your home with.
Create your mantra, reduce tension & fear and literally transform your perception of pain during your birth.

Growing a baby in a heatwave? You’re basically a superhero. 🥵☀️
Whilst this reel is a bit of fun (yes… the fan is officially hers now 😅), being heavily pregnant in hot weather really can feel miserable.
Here are a few evidence based ways to stay comfortable:
💧 Drink little and often to stay hydrated.
🧊 Use cold flannels or ice packs on your neck, wrists or feet to help cool your body.
🏡 Stay in the shade or indoors during the hottest part of the day where possible.
👗 Wear loose, lightweight clothing made from natural, breathable fabrics like cotton or linen to help your body stay as cool as possible.
🦶 Put your feet up if you’re struggling with swelling.
🍉 Choose water rich foods like watermelon, cucumber and strawberries for an extra hydration boost.
Partners, your mission is simple: make life easier. Fill the water bottle. Take over a few jobs. Bring the snacks. Keep the fan pointing in her direction. Trust me, she’ll appreciate it more than you know.
And if you’re pregnant, remember that if you feel unwell, become dizzy, struggle to cool down, or notice your baby’s movements have reduced, contact your maternity unit straight away.
Who’s currently surviving pregnancy in this heat? ☀️
Birth can be hard, you can feel out of control, like you can’t do it. Often that means exactly the opposite 🩷 watch to the end 🥹
The sense of satisfaction when that little baby arrives after all of your hard work, unmatched✨

I was scared to post my birth vlog because I felt like I completely lost control. I felt like before my waters broke I was remaining so calm and all I’ve seen on the internet is these beautiful, quiet, or****ic births where the mum just breathes the baby out so I felt like I’d put people off labour or scare them. My waters went and then he was here in 4 minutes so my body was instantly pushing for me, I had no control in that moment, I couldn’t hold him in, I couldn’t slow it down, it was animalistic, primal, loud and that’s still a beautiful thing. Birth is powerful and there’s no escaping that, everybody is different and that’s what makes our world a beautiful place. If we were all the same life would be pretty boring. I want to empower anyone who watches this to see that you can be loud and be in pain but the minute your baby is on your chest everything disappears. All that matters in that moment is your baby. 🤍🤍 (please know that however you birth your baby you’re incredible and you should be so proud of what you did, women are phenomenal)
