Let’s clear this one up because I think massage gets blamed for making promises it simply can’t keep.
Massage does not melt fat or directly cause weight loss.
But that doesn’t mean it has no place in your weight loss journey.
When you’re trying to lose weight, your body needs more than just eating less and exercising more.
Massage can help you feel less stiff and uncomfortable, support recovery after exercise, encourage relaxation and give you some much needed time to properly switch off.
And when you feel better in your body, you’re often more inclined to move, exercise, sleep well and look after yourself.Massage isn’t a weight loss treatment. It doesn’t burn fat and I’m never going to tell you that it does.
Also massage can help you relax, reduce perceived stress and shift your body out of that constant “go, go, go” feeling.
And supporting your nervous system, getting better quality sleep and managing chronic stress can make it easier to stick with the things that actually support healthy weight loss.
Think:
✨ Better recovery
✨ More restful sleep
✨ Less stress
✨ More awareness of your body
✨ Feeling more able to move and exercise
✨ Time to properly stop and reset
And when we talk about hormones, I think the important bit is supporting the systems that influence them, rather than promising that massage will magically “balance your hormones”.
Your body isn’t a machine that needs fixing.
Sometimes it needs more support, more recovery and a little less stress.
And honestly?
That’s one of the reasons I have a massage every 4 weeks myself.
Your weight loss journey doesn’t have to be about doing MORE. Sometimes it’s about helping your body feel safe enough to recover too.

Take 4 minutes to learn simple techniques that actually help - breathing, movement, massage and more.
Your Nervous System Is Overwhelmed. Here's What Actually Helps. Science-backed, practical ways to regulate your nervous system when life feels like too much — from a massage therapist in Norwich who sees the physical cost of stress every single week.
Okay, let me explain this because this is something I talk about with clients a lot.
When you’ve got sciatic pain, it doesn’t necessarily mean there’s a tight muscle that I can just find and dig into until it disappears.
Sciatica involves irritation or compression of the sciatic nerve, so massage isn’t about attacking the nerve.
What I’m looking at is everything around it.
Your glutes. Your hips. Your lower back. Your hamstrings.
If those muscles are really tight and overworked, the right massage can help reduce muscular tension and make movement feel more comfortable.
So if you come to me with sciatica, I’m not going to try and ‘fix your nerve’.
I’m going to assess what your body is actually doing and work with it, not against it.
And if your symptoms are severe, getting worse, or you’ve got numbness or weakness, that needs checking medically before massage.
The right treatment starts with understanding what’s actually going on.

Research suggests massage may help reduce pain and improve function in people with lower back and related leg pain, particularly when muscular tension is contributing. It’s not a treatment for the nerve itself, but it can be a useful part of managing symptoms alongside appropriate medical care and movement.

If you’re constantly rushing, thinking, planning, working, looking after everyone else… your nervous system can spend a lot of time in a state of alert.
Massage gives your body something it doesn’t always get enough of: time, stillness - relaxing without the need to “get something else done”
Research suggests massage can influence the autonomic nervous system ✌️including reducing heart rate and supporting parasympathetic activity, the part of your nervous system involved in rest and recovery.
And honestly, you can often feel that transition during a treatment.
Your breathing slows.
Your shoulders drop.
Your jaw unclenches.
Your mind gets still.
It’s not about “fixing” your stress in an hour.
It’s about giving your body a regular opportunity to come out of go-go-go mode.
If you’ve been feeling tense, wired, overwhelmed or like you simply haven’t had a moment to yourself lately, this is your reminder that looking after your nervous system is part of looking after yourself.
I have a few massage spaces available this week in Norwich.

These might sound like opinions… but after years of treating hundreds of clients, they’re the things I believe over and over again.
The biggest one?
We accept feeling uncomfortable far too easily.
We blame our age.
Our job.
Being a mum.
Being busy.
And yes, those things all play a part. But they don’t mean you have to live with tight shoulders, regular headaches or a neck that always feels stiff.
Your body adapts to whatever you ask of it. Right now we’re asking it to sit more, drive more, look down at screens more, carry more and somehow keep going without any support.
No wonder so many people feel sore all the time.
Massage isn’t about “treating yourself.”
For me, it’s part of looking after the body that gets you through every single day. It’s why I book my own massage every four weeks, before my body starts complaining.
Which one did you need to hear today?
👇 Tell me in the comments… or send this to someone who keeps saying “I’m just getting old.”

It’s so easy during summer and school holidays to let self care slip a little.
Holidays, heat waves, a packed calendar… less time for ourselves, we get busy with life and kids activities 🛝
But remember to carve out time to relax, balance out your nervous system and ease any muscle aches.
Whether it’s a muscle soothing deep tissue, a restorative peaceful Swedish treatment or a deeply relaxing and uplifting face lift massage (perfect if you’ve over indulged) - reach out to book something in just for you.
If your body is doing any of these things - this post is for you.
😳Shoulders that carry tension from the moment you wake up.
😳A neck that aches by Wednesday.
😳Headaches that start at the base of your skull and creep upward.
😳A back that’s been quietly complaining for months.
😳That one knot that never fully goes, no matter what you do.
These aren’t just inconveniences. They’re your nervous system telling you that the tension has been sitting long enough - in the deeper muscle layers, in the fascia, in the tissue that a standard massage simply doesn’t reach.
Most of my clients say the same thing afterward. Not just that they feel better - but that they feel like themselves again. Lighter.
This is how you should feel all the time, as your standard baseline.

Okay, hands up 🙋♀️ How many of these are you?
Because I see this every single week. Prople walking through my door who’ve been ignoring their body for months. Sometimes years. Telling themselves they’re fine. Pushing through. Adding it to the list of things they’ll sort later.
And their body has been quietly, persistently, trying to get their attention the whole time.
The twitching eye. The headache that lives at the base of your skull. The knot in your upper back that’s just… always there now. The face that looks exhausted even when you actually feel okay.
These aren’t just annoying little things to put up with. They’re your body asking for some proper care.
I’m Maria. I’m a qualified massage therapist based in Horsford, just outside Norwich. I offer deep tissue, Swedish relaxation and natural face lift massage - and I genuinely love what I do because of moments like this. When someone books a treatment and leaves an hour later feeling like themselves again.
If any of these hit a little too close to home - that’s your sign.
Link in bio to book, or just send me a message.
I can usually tell within a few seconds if someone’s been holding stress in their body for a while.
Their shoulders don’t fully drop when they lie down.
Their jaw’s tight without realising.
Their breathing stays high and shallow - even when they’re trying to relax.
They may seem distracted and not fully present during consultation…
And the thing is… most people don’t even notice they’re doing it anymore.
They’ve adapted to feeling tense.
Until after a treatment, when they suddenly realise:
“Oh… THIS is what relaxed actually feels like.”
That’s why massage isn’t just about “pampering yourself”.
Sometimes your body genuinely needs help letting go of what it’s been carrying for weeks.
