As an eczema sufferer I found that using the traditional methods of hair removal - waxing, shaving, threading or epilation just made the condition of my skin worse, so, on the recommendation of a friend I went to London to get IPL treatments - she certainly didn't fib when she said it would change my life!!! As I couldn't get the service anywhere in Norwich, I trained and set up in business to help fellow hairy ladies who needed this fantastic service - we now have branches in Norwich, Ipswich and Chelmsford, womanned by experienced former hairy ladies who have total empathy with new ladies needing our help. Today is the final day of PCOS Awareness Month, but the conversation must continue.
Did you know that up to 70% of women with PCOS may remain undiagnosed?
For some women, excessive facial or body hair can mean daily shaving, painful ingrown hairs and a real knock to their confidence. When clients come to me for help with unwanted hair linked to hormonal imbalances, I always encourage them to speak to their GP.
If your symptoms have been dismissed or you feel that something still isn’t right, don’t be afraid to ask more questions or seek a second medical opinion. You know your body, and you deserve to feel heard.
IPL can help manage unwanted hair, but understanding what may be causing it is important too. Let’s keep raising awareness, listening to women and talking openly about PCOS.

Something I often explain to clients is why IPL hair removal requires a course of treatments rather than one appointment.
Your hairs do not all grow at the same time. Each follicle works independently and moves through three different stages:
Anagen: the active growth phase
The hair is growing and remains connected to the follicle. This is when IPL is most effective because the light energy can target the pigment in the hair and travel down towards the follicle.
Catagen: the transition phase
Growth stops, the follicle begins to shrink and the hair disconnects from its blood supply. This stage normally lasts only a few weeks.
Telogen: the resting and shedding phase
The follicle rests while the old hair remains in place or naturally sheds. It may stay dormant for several months before beginning a new growth cycle.
At each appointment, only some of your hairs will be in the active anagen phase. The others are resting or transitioning and cannot be effectively treated yet.
This is why IPL appointments are usually spaced around four to six weeks apart, depending on the treatment area. Each session targets a new group of actively growing hairs. As your course progresses, regrowth should gradually become finer, softer and much sparser.

It’s wonderful to hear that you already feel your hair looks thinner after just one IPL treatment.
Some people may notice a difference after their first session, with fewer or finer hairs growing back. However, IPL works gradually, so the most noticeable results develop over a course of treatments as we target the hair during different stages of its growth cycle.
You should begin to see the difference more clearly from around six weeks, so this is a really encouraging start. I can’t wait to see how your results continue!
