If I Think of Germany at Night (2017) is a German documentary directed by Romuald Karmakar that explores the country’s electronic music and techno scene. It focuses on five pioneering DJs Ricardo Villalobos, Sonja Moonear, Ata, Roman Flügel, and Move D highlighting their studio work, club performances, and personal reflections on the genre’s
If I Think of Germany at Night is a film that has largely lived in rare, carefully curated moments rather than wide circulation. Premiering at the Berlinale and subsequently shown at select festivals, film institutes, and art contexts, it has never been widely distributed or easily available to stream. Most screenings have been one off events, often tied to music or cultural gatherings rather than traditional cinema runs. This scarcity makes each viewing feel intentional and special best experienced in a quiet, shared space where its rhythms, silences, and long form listening can fully unfold.

Do you run an independent record label?
Independent labels are the backbone of the underground dance scene. Every producer you love has released on one at some point, and many run their own.
They give a platform to new and unknown artists, launch careers, and are where you’ll find the most leftfield, obscure gems. Who doesn’t love a white label?
We specialise in pre-used and second-hand music, but we’re passionate about supporting the scene we love. That’s why we want your releases.
Do you run an independent label? Know someone who does? Or is there one we should be listening to?
Tag them in the comments.
Let’s get more independent wax in the shop.
