@ Jo maries beauty room Short & Curlys Shaw The lymphatic system's your body's drainage and immune network—it moves fluid called lymph, filters waste, and fights infection through vessels and nodes, without a pump like the heart, so it relies on movement.
Lymphatic drainage, or manual lymphatic drainage (MLD), is a super gentle, rhythmic massage using light pressure to stimulate that flow, redirecting built-up fluid from swollen areas toward working lymph nodes so your body can process it.
It's strongest for reducing swelling in lymphedema, especially after cancer treatments like breast surgery, and helps with post-op swelling, certain injuries, and conditions like fibromyalgia or rheumatoid arthritis. Studies back it for cutting edema and pain in specific cases, though results vary and it's often part of broader therapy with compression.
It may ease stress, boost how you feel, and give skin a temporary glow, but claims about major detox, weight loss, or cellulite fixes are mostly hype—it's not burning fat or flushing "toxins" beyond what your liver and kidneys already handle. You might feel lighter or less bloated short-term from fluid shifts.
It's generally safe when done by a trained therapist, but skip it if you have blood clots, active infection, heart issues, kidney problems, or fever. Sessions start by clearing nodes in neck, armpits, or groin, then work outward—expect it to feel relaxing, not deep like a regular massage.
