What worries or concerns do you have about walking into a beauty salon

‼ SUNBURN, REDDENING, PEELING AND EVEN TANNING OF THE SKIN IS CLEAR INDICATION OF SUN DAMAGE. OVER-EXPOSURE TO UVA AND UVB CAUSES DNA CELL DAMAGE THAT CAN LEAD TO ALL TYPES OF SKIN CANCER.

Cumulative sun exposure is the main cause of non-melanoma skin cancers, while sunburn plays a clear role in the development of melanoma.

Sunburn is bad news and can significantly increase your risk of developing melanoma. Skin damage builds up over time starting with your very first sunburn and the more you burn, the greater your risk of developing melanoma.

Sunburn (reddening of the skin) is a reaction to over-exposure to UV radiation caused by the sun and/or sunbeds. Our skin turns red within 2-6 hours of being burnt and continues to develop for the next 24 to 72 hours. The superficial layers of the skin release chemicals that cause our blood vessels to expand and leak fluid causing swelling, pain and redness. Without sun protection, UV radiation penetrates deep into the layers of the skin causing cumulative and irreparable damage to the skin cells.

A GOLDEN RULE OF SKIN CANCER PREVENTION IS TO NEVER ALLOW YOUR SKIN TO BURN.

Every month is

SUPPORT LOCAL

It’s a daily occurrence to see a Facebook status of your local salon or hairdresser, florist or coffee shop saying ‘Due to Coronavirus, we have had to close’

And frankly, its heart-breaking.

I want you to think about the person behind that business.
The person who – once – excitedly collected the keys to that new space.

They probably painted it themselves.

They probably handpicked the furniture.

They poured their heart, soul and savings into that business.

They probably worked more hours than they needed. They probably struggled over their accounts every month to balance the books. They probably pulled on some gloves at the end of the day to clean the place ready for their valued customers.

These people are your friends, your uncle and aunties, your cousins, your schoolmates.

Normal, decent people trying to make magic happen.

People that had a dream and made it come to life.

And now, this thing happened, and just like that, it’s all gone.

Over the last few weeks, I have experienced some horrific customer service from big businesses and online retailers. I have had to fight for refunds when things didn’t arrive. I have been dismissed when I complained because the service was beyond atrocious.

And I have to ask myself ‘why am I giving my money to these people, when the small guys will look after me so much better?’

Why do we keep fuelling brands that have sailed and grown through the pandemic whilst watching the little guys fall apart?

🧖Buy your skin and haircare from your local salon.

🥦Buy your veg from the green grocer.

☕️Buy your coffee from the local café.

📰Buy your paper from the local shop.

🍲Book dinner in the independently owned restaurant.

When I’m walking my dog and I need to get the paper, it’s the independent shop that doesn’t mind him coming in with me.

When it’s my Mother In Law’s birthday, it’s the local florist that will pull out all the stops to make the most incredible bouquet she’s ever seen.

When my hair got damaged and all broke off, it was my local salon that helped me make it healthy again.

If we don’t support them, they will not survive.

They have what we need, and they need us. Now, more than ever.

Support Local. Share if you agree.
