Iffley Turn Practice - Osteopathy and Massage
"A multidisciplinary therapy clinic providing Osteopathy, Massage, Mindfulness courses and more."

The biggest pre-race myth I see before the Oxford Half
"I feel tight, so I need to do more."
Usually, tightness close to race day is your body asking for recovery, good movement and calm preparation, not a last-minute panic session.
Swipe for what to do instead. And if something feels off in your knee, calf, hip, lower back or shoulders, let us help you decide whether a pre-race appointment or post-race recovery session is the right next step.

Do you ever get a niggle that comes and goes, and you're not quite sure if it's "worth" booking in for?
We've put together 3 simple signs that it might be time for a revisit - before it turns into something you can't ignore. Have a look through the slides below 👇
A revisit isn't starting again from scratch. We check what's changed since we last saw you and build a plan from there.
If any of this sounds familiar, we'd love to see you back in the clinic.

Ever wonder what we are thinking before your treatment even starts?
The moment you walk in, we are already working - just not with our hands yet.
In the first 30 seconds, we're quietly noticing: How you're breathing - shallow and high in the chest, or slow and low in the belly? How you're holding yourself at rest - one shoulder higher, weight shifted to one hip? How you get onto the plinth - easily, or guarding a particular area? What your tissue feels like - warm and pliable, or tight and guarded? How you move once you're settled - where you naturally avoid moving.
None of this is us "reading your mind" - it's pattern-spotting. And it directly shapes your session: how much pressure we start with, how fast or slow we work, and which techniques we reach for first.
This is also why we'll usually ask questions before we begin - how you slept, what your week's looked like, whether you've trained or sat at a desk for 9 hours straight. The more we know, the less guessing we do, and the more the session is actually built around you rather than a generic routine.
Osteopathy and Massage therapy works best as a two-way conversation, not something done to you. So next time, don't be shy about mentioning the small stuff - it genuinely changes how we treat you.

Stretching relieves. Treatment resolves.
📍 Ready to actually get out of the cycle? Book a session - we'll assess what's really going on and build a plan that works alongside your stretching, not instead of it.
Behind the scenes, this is the return-from-holiday advice I give clients.
The first week back can flare things fast: long drives, different beds, more walking, broken routines, then straight back to a desk and a stressed brain.
This is especially helpful for people who don't look after their health because work always jumps to the front of the queue.
Start with awareness, sort your setup, break up sitting, and watch what happens This is especially helpful for people who don't look after their health because work always jumps to the front of the queue. Start with awareness, sort your setup, break up sitting, and watch what happens for 24-48 hours.
If your body settles, keep supporting it. If it keeps grumbling, get it looked at early.
Save this so you've got a plan next time you come back from a break. Share it with the colleague who always returns with a stiff neck.

🌡️ HEATWAVE BACK PAIN CHECK-IN 🌡️
Hot weather can leave muscles feeling stiff, tired, and surprisingly achy. In clinic, we've been sharing a few simple "micro-cool" habits that can make a real difference.
💙 Which one has helped YOUR back the most?
❄️ A. Cool compress behind the neck
10 minutes with a cool (not ice-cold) compress can help your body feel calmer and reduce that overheated, tense feeling.
🚶♀️ B. A 4-minute evening cooling walk
A short stroll once the temperature drops can ease stiffness from sitting all day and help you unwind before bed.
🦶 C. Desk fan + feet elevated
Working from home or in the office? Elevating your feet for a few minutes while using a fan can help you feel less sluggish and relieve some of that end-of-day heaviness.

Or share your own heatwave tip—we're always looking for new ideas from our local community of desk workers, teachers, researchers, and busy professionals.

Sharing this from a very real place…
I’ve got teenagers going through exams right now, and you can feel the pressure in the house.
What’s helped me most is using the NLP tools I’ve been learning - especially understanding this:
Stress is a state… and states can change.
So instead of trying to remove the stress, I’ve been focusing on simple shifts in language, focus, and state - and it’s made a big difference for all of us.
I’ve put some of the tools we’re using at home into this carousel - to help reduce overwhelm, build calm, and support that post-exam reset.
Because calm and confidence are skills… and they can be learned 🤍

Paediatric Osteopathy FAQs – Part 2 👶✨
“How can osteopathy help my baby?”
“What happens during a session?”
In this reel, We're answering two more common questions parents often ask before booking an appointment.
Paediatric osteopathy uses gentle, hands-on techniques to support your baby’s comfort, movement and development in a calm and relaxed environment 🌱
During a session, treatment is always tailored to your baby’s individual needs, with plenty of time to talk through concerns, feeding, sleep, development and any questions you may have as a parent.
Have another question about paediatric osteopathy? Leave it below and it could feature in Part 3 👇

C-section scars can sometimes leave ongoing tightness, pulling or numbness long after healing.
This client came to see Nicola Malone 12 weeks after her second C-section wanting to support recovery and avoid the issues she experienced after her first birth.
Using scar therapy, hands-on treatment and simple home care, she worked on improving movement, comfort and healing.
