There is RECIPROC and there are all the other systems, rotary and reciprocating. There is not a reciprocating system that is equivalent to Reciproc. If a clinician wishes to use a reciprocating system, they will have ONLY 2 options, either Reciproc or any other reciprocating system. There are 2 main differences between Reciproc and all the other systems, reciprocating or rotary: 1- no scouting and no glide path are needed with Reciproc in 95-100% of the canals in molars, and 2- the science supporting the Reciproc concept (nothing comparable for any of the other systems exists). This case was done by @rmonaco using only one Reciproc R25 blue instrument without scouting and without glide path. Notice the presence of a severe curvature and calcified canals. This is the ideal situation for using R25 blue. This case, done with any other system, would be challenging mainly because of the need to scout with files size 8 and 10. Regardless of the skills of the clinician, this would be a challenging case to be done with any other rotary or reciprocating system. The progress of Reciproc in this curved and calcified canal will be slow. But it will be gradual and safe. Although the progress is slow, it is safer than scouting with small SS hand files 8 and 10. Scouting has been shown to be the most challenging step in the canal preparation procedure. Surprisingly, some clinicians still recommend scouting prior to using Reciproc. If you attend a course or a workshop where the educator recommends scouting with an 8 or 10 file before using Reciproc, LEAVE. This defeats the concept of Reciproc and makes the procedure in curved and / or curved canals much more challenging. Many clinicians show amazing cases done with other systems. However, they forget to mention the struggle they encounter during scouting!! Thanks for your attention! 07/09/2024
