For me, a good tattoo is not just about how much detail you can put in. It has to read well from a distance, sit properly on the body and hold its strength over time.

This piece was designed with a balance of light, mid and dark tones so the tattoo has depth without becoming too heavy or cluttered.

My client came in with a dragon idea, and the original design had potential.

The problem was not the concept.

It was that the design was not working properly for the placement.

For a dragon tattoo to stand out, it needs more than just linework. It needs movement, balance and contrast. So I rebuilt the design around his arm instead of forcing the first idea onto the skin.

I spent time researching references, adjusting the shape and making sure the tattoo would wrap naturally, flow with the body and stay readable over time.

I also added a better balance of light, mid and black tones to give the tattoo more depth and make the design pop without making it look too heavy.

He gave me full trust with the process, which I really appreciate.

The final result fits the arm so much better, and we were both really happy with how it came together.

Good tattoos are not just about having a cool image.

They need to fit the body.

This one started with Dark Souls.

My client brought references from the game, including the sword, a boss helmet, his favourite character, and even a book he picked up in Japan.

None of these references are being copied directly.

The goal is to take the elements that mean something to him and build them into one custom composition that flows with his body.

This is the part of tattooing I enjoy most.

Turning separate ideas into something personal.

The tattoo is still in progress, but I thought I’d share a little of the journey before the final reveal.
