Show yourself some love today ❤️

Being kind & compassionate to yourself can help you to have a positive relationship with food and with yourself, making it easier to look after you with great food and acts of self care.

Self-love = More Happy Eating

This is because your brain is listening to everything you say and think. When your are self critical your brain hears and this impacts how you feel and behave.

Do you ever find yourself thinking things like..

- ‘I shouldn’t have eaten that’
- ‘I’ve blown it. These no point bothering any more’
-‘I didn’t do a good job today’

Today, be aware of your thoughts and when they are harsh or judgemental swap them for something positive and compassionate. Talk to yourself as you would someone you love, show yourself love and kindness.

Keep noticing and practicing kind self talk every day and see how it impacts your health and happiness.

It’s not just WHAT you eat that matters. HOW you eat is a huge part of nourishing yourself.

How means: where, when, who with, how long you take for your meal, your mood/emotions while you eat

My top 3 tips for this are:

1. Prioritise your meal. This is your fuel and will affect how your day goes. Give it time.

2. Eat in the calmest place you can. Move away from your computer, sit outside or by a window. Move away from an environment which makes you feel stressed.

3. When you sit down to eat, pause…take 3 breaths and soak up what your about to eat. (This really helps)

Doing these things will increase your metabolism, increase the nutrients you absorb from your meal, improve digestion and help appetite regulation🧡

Food should give both joy and nourishment.

Each handful of blueberries, pile of salad leaves, slice of avocado and scattering of pumpkin seeds is worthwhile and helps your body to be your ally protecting you and keeping you strong and happy.

Shielding you with Super Savers!

Escalating food costs are inevitably having an impact on the foods lots of us are buying and eating.
2/3rds of UK consumers have cut back in fruit and vegetables this year.

So throughout September we’re utilising the ‘super saver’ vegetables at Aldi and Lidl in a new food idea every week, to make it as inexpensive as possible to fill upon vegetables.

This weeks new recipe is Courgette & White Bean Soup. This combination of veggies and beans is a super effect and cost effective way of filling you up and nourishing you. Think carrot & lentil, minestrone, Tuscan bean & vegetable. Buy the veggies on offer & add tinned or dried, cooked beans and pulses for a very happy, warming meal🙂

This tip is super easy and will save you headspace and time every week so thinking about food can be fun rather than a chore.

Happy Eating Tip: Create yourself a Master Meals List

This is a list of the meals you, (and anyone else in your household) enjoy and eat regularly

Start your list and keep it handy so you can use it when you think about meals and write your shopping list. Take a photo so its on your phone or keep the list on your fridge.

As you try new dishes or remember old favourites add them to your list. Then when you meal plan you just have to pick what you fancy from a list from 20-30 dishes rather than trying to scan your brain for everything you've ever had and what everyone likes!

Our newest sweet recipe - banana pudding! Wonderfully reminiscent of bananas and custard🍌 but made different ingredients to give it extra health benefits!

Plus this banana pudding is INCREDIBLY satsisfying and stabilising -you'll feel full, energised and focused after this dessert with no cravings for carb rich foods creeping up soon after.

Recipe:

- 2 bananas, ripe (plus 1 more to top - optional)
- 300 g silken tofu
- 1 tbsp date syrup
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- cinnamon, dark chocolate to taste

1. Pop the first 4 ingredient sinto a food processor and blitz until smooth

2. Add a sprinkle of cinnamon if you like

3. Pour into 4 small bowls or dishes and top with grated dark chocolate and banana slices

Silken tofu is a great natural source of plant isoflavones which can help balance hormones and alleviate menopausal (and peri-menopausal) symptoms. It's also rich in protein helping keep blood sugar levels stable and cravings at bay.

My epic adventure!

I spent yesterday walking the stunning West Mendip way with my siblings. 29 miles of undulating hills, proper scrambles requiring hands as well as feet, views which took my breath away and a whole day of wonderful company.

Our walk was a celebration of our family, a chance to take a day out to immerse ourselves in nature and to push ourselves beyond our comfortable limits.

I highly recommend a time-out walk!

Turn it on it's head.

There won't be a perfect time to start making changes to how you eat, exercise and look after you. Something will always come up; a celebration; a busy time at work or a stressful situation.

Instead of waiting for the right time, begin by nourishing you. Let the magical ingredients in the food you feed yourself do their work and make the daily stresses a little bit easier, help you sleep a little bit better and help you feel less sluggish.

Dinner last night was 'Build Your Own' Nicose Salad!

I use 'build your own' meals a lot for easy family meals. They're easy to put together and encourage everyone to get involved in the meal and try something new.

A Tuna Nicose Salad feels just right for the warmer days - light and fresh but plenty of protein, happy fats and fibre to keep everyone satisified and on top form.
