☑️ There’s a lot more to a hair transplant than simply moving hair from one area of the scalp to another.

This is one of the doctors I work closely with at the clinic I work with in Istanbul, carrying out a procedure.

One of the biggest things I’ve learnt from spending time inside hair transplant clinics is just how much the people performing the procedure matter.

Hairline planning, donor management, graft handling, incision placement, angles, distribution and medical oversight all contribute to the eventual result.

It’s also why I put so much importance on knowing who is actually involved in my clients’ procedures rather than simply recommending a clinic based on photographs and results online.

I want to see how a clinic operates.

I want to meet the medical team.

And I want to understand exactly what happens when one of my clients walks through the door.

Because when you’re trusting someone with something as permanent as a hair transplant, the team behind the procedure matters just as much as the name above the clinic.

❔Does testosterone actually cause hair loss?

It’s a common assumption: more testosterone = more hair loss.

But male pattern hair loss isn’t quite that simple.

Some testosterone is converted by the enzyme 5-alpha reductase into dihydrotestosterone, better known as DHT.

In men who are genetically susceptible to male pattern hair loss, certain scalp follicles are particularly sensitive to androgen signalling, including DHT. Over successive hair cycles, these follicles can gradually miniaturise, producing hairs that become finer, shorter and eventually far less visible.

But here’s the important part:

Two men can have similar testosterone levels and experience completely different amounts of hair loss.

Why?

Because your genetics and the susceptibility of your individual hair follicles to androgens matter enormously.

So having high testosterone doesn’t automatically mean you’re going bald and having lower testosterone certainly doesn’t guarantee you’ll keep your hair.

When it comes to male pattern hair loss, it’s not simply about how much testosterone you have.

It’s about how your follicles respond to androgen signalling.

What started as me helping men understand their hair loss has grown into working with clinics in both the UK and Istanbul, building relationships with people I trust and personally seeing how things are done behind the scenes.

For me, that part is important.

I don’t want to recommend somewhere because I’ve seen a few good results online. I want to know the people, understand how they work and see the standards for myself.

Another trip to Istanbul. Another opportunity to keep building The Hair Loss Guy into exactly what I want it to be.

And probably far too much Turkish coffee along the way. ☕️

🏆 A hairline restoration isn’t about creating the lowest or straightest hairline possible, it’s about creating one that looks natural and suits the individual.

For this client, the focus was on rebuilding the frontal area and restoring the shape and framing that had gradually been lost through male pattern hair loss.

Hairline design is one of the most important parts of a hair transplant. Position, density, graft selection, angles and long term planning all contribute to whether the finished result looks natural.

And importantly, the plan needs to make sense not only for how someone looks today, but for how their hair loss could progress in the future.

The goal should never be a hairline that looks transplanted. It should simply look like your hairline.
