Hello from me, Caitlin, here at The Little Nails Shed!

I felt it was time for a long overdue refresh. How do you like my new logo and rebrand?

Not much else is changing for now, but I felt a strong pull to change some small details. I think it’s much more on brand for me and the service I strive to deliver.

A service which is warm, adaptive, open, relaxed, homely, comfortable, inviting, leaving you with clean, tidy, looked after, beautiful nails.

LONG POST ALERT!

When I set up The Little Nails Shed back in 2019, I had no idea how far it would get me. I’m not sure I truly believed it would become anything more than a hobby, a side hustle or a bit of pocket money.

A complete career change whilst on maternity leave as a first time mum with a baby, well, it was risky. Late nights, longggg appointments, mistakes made, lessons learnt, just like any other business that starts from the ground up. My partner Dave supported me from my first ‘I think I want to change career and be at home more’. He’s stuck by me through all the hurdles we’ve faced along the way. My dad, Phil, helped build the salon with him, which taught Dave a few things about DIY! My mum Chris was my model, even during my early training days. She didn’t complain once about the hours and hours of mistakes! I couldn’t have done it without any of them.

But here we are, 7 years on - my books have been full for a while, clients have become friends, some have been here since the very first months of opening. I’m working back to back most working days, I’m confident in the service I provide, I love my job, and I’m so lucky I get to channel all my creativity into your nails!

Sometimes I have to pinch myself that this is actually my job that I get paid for!

But I can’t deny it, it’s never, ever, not for a second, simply been about ‘just doing nails’. I intentionally set out to create, constantly adapting to ensure and nurture, an inclusive and safe space for women - ALL women - to just simply, be, for a couple of hours a month. Women of all ages, races, backgrounds, sexualities, the list goes on.

To talk, and I mean, really talk. Maybe in a way you wouldn’t to literally anyone else? Without fear of judgment or shame or guilt. To say the things out loud you literally save for your nail appointments. Or sometimes not to say anything at all (silent appointments are a thing - but first, you just have to ask!).

Sometimes to cry, to laugh, to grieve, to wish and dream out loud, unapologetically. To gasp fears out and breathe hope in. From babies, to IVF, to divorce, to new love, new jobs, new houses, illness, recovery, mental health, those life changing moments of
‘I’ve got the all clear’, or, ‘I should have already dumped him, shouldn’t I?’.

I’ve had wedding invites, milestone birthday invites, and believe it or not, promise me you’ll do my nails when I die’ conversations!

But it’s not because of me - it’s because of all of you as individuals - bold, brave, choosing to prioritise self care, in a world that sometimes tells us girls we should be able to do it all, all at once. For a couple of hours every 3-4 weeks, you choose you. Maybe it’s not that deep, it’s just nails after all, but I think it’s the most badass thing ever.

If you’ve read this far - thank you. And to summarise - what I’ve learnt along the way, not just alongside all the practical skill development, finishing techniques and business knowledge, but first and foremost is - women are simply fabulous. All of you inspire me, teach me, pour into me as I strive to do for you. And I am quite simply, HONOURED. I’m eternally grateful for all of you, my wonderful clients. Thank you for continuing to choose me.

See you next time,
Caitlin, The Little Nails Shed xoxo

HELLO EVERYONE ❤️ I’m baaaaack. I’m not sure how long this will last but I’ve decided to occasionally do a photo dump of a snippet of any ‘recent’ work - this 20 is about .5% of the last 12 months 😂. I decided a while ago to stop posting for two reasons; my books were full 🥳 (I’m very very lucky to say that! 🥰) which for the most part they still are, but on the rare occasion I take new clients, socials were not bringing them to me anyway, it was my wonderful clients who were with referrals. Word of mouth truly is the backbone of small independent business and sole traders! I also had the unpleasant experience of my personal Instagram being hacked and losing all my photos 🙄 and I’ve never got it back! I really lost faith in the security of the whole thing and figured why bother… on top of that I actually really felt the pressure to post and I was using a lot of valuable time to post things that didn’t make me any profit - as a business owner, I had to decide what I valued most - increasing engagement for no change to bottom line, or giving myself time back for actual paid work AND time with my family. That’s worked for the last 18 months with no regrets BUT people keep asking so I figured I could maybe do possibly monthly posts (I’m still not wanting to commit to specifics 😅😂). Anyway! Watch this space for more nail content ❤️ lots of love, Caitlin, The Little Nails Shed xoxo
