TPO ban....let’s talk about those scary "gel nail safety" headlines! 🙄

I keep seeing scaremongering headlines & have had a few of my lovely clients mentioned articles they themselves have read about the safety of gel nails, as a ban on TPO is coming in.
Let me explain the science...

As a nail tech with over 22 years of experience 💅, I pinky promise that you & your nails are completely safe & you do not need to worry 😅.
Here's the simple truth behind the clickbait headlines to put your mind at rest...
The UK is phasing out a single ingredient called TPO which is basically just a "photoinitiator", the tiny ingredient that tells the gel to harden under the lamp.

The ban is based on laboratory tests where lab rats were fed massive, pure quantities of this chemical & only then did it effect fertility in some of the female rats.
For context though, to get that kind of exposure, a human would have to literally eat approximately 450 (yes 450!!!) of bottles of gel in a single day! 😵‍💫🤯🫣😂.
It is painted in tiny amounts onto your hard nail plate. It doesn't absorb into your body, and once it cures under the lamp, it is completely set.

Independent cosmetic scientists have always agreed it poses no real world risk to humans but UK cosmetic laws feature a mandatory trigger system that automatically bans any ingredient classified as a Category 1B Reproductive Toxin, regardless of its real world risk level being extremely low.
However, the industry is already ahead of it as the UK gave brands years to prepare for this change. The professional products I use have already started to be reformulated to be completely TPO free.

The dates are that are coming into force:
15/08/2026 - Manufacturers & brands can no longer supply or import new batches of products containing TPO
14/02/2027 - Wholesalers, retailers & distributors must stop selling products containing TPO
After 14/02/2027 - Salons/nail techs can continue to use products containing TPO until old stock is used

I haven't updated my prices in nearly 2 years and this change ensures I can continue running a sustainable business whilst maintaining the high standards of products & time that I like to give each & every client ❤️.

I put everything I can into trying to create an environment that means you get:
🤍 My undivided 1:1 time:
I block out approximately 1.5 hours for most nail appointments & plenty of dedicated time for all of my brow, lash, skin & body treatments.
This means we don't have to rush, which allows me to provide you with a treatment where I can pay attention to the little details whilst also looking after your long term health.
(And let's be honest, we do love a chat too 🤭).
I also structure my time to allow cleaning time between clients.
🤍 Your own dedicated file bag:
Each & every client has their own personal file bag & buffers used exclusively on them.
🤍 Product investment:
Your safety is my absolute priority. I only use high quality, industry certified brands that are backed by UK Safety Data Sheets & strictly adhere to the latest UK cosmetic regulations.
I continuously monitor ingredient safety updates so that your treatments always meet the most current legal industry standards.
My brands include The Gel Bottle (TGB) for your BIAB, NSI for acrylics, LashBase for your lashes & a few other brands that have been carefully chosen by me over the years to provide you with the best that I can.
This also goes for my chrome powders & cats eye, they are bought from some of the brands above or reputable wholesalers.
Never cheap, unbranded alternatives that can be hazardous to your health.

Because I work from a private home setting, you get a calm, comfortable, safe space environment all to yourself.
Your appointment is a relaxing break in your day that is entirely focused on you.
🤍 Work/life balance:
I work part time so that I can balance my business with my family.
My children will always be my absolute highest priority & I know that this dedication to my family is a moral value that many of my wonderful clients share & support.
Even with this balance in place & though my hours are structured carefully, I always do my absolute best to accommodate where possible.
My work ethic & commitment to you has never wavered.
I'm very proud to say that in nearly 23 years, I have only ever had to let a client down/rearrange in an absolute emergency & this has been less than a handful of times.
