Is it athlete's foot... or something else? 🦶

Athlete's foot (tinea pedis) is one of the most common fungal skin infections, but it is not always "just a bit of dry skin." It can cause itching, peeling, cracked skin, soreness, white soggy skin between the toes and, in some cases, blisters. If left untreated, it may spread to the toenails or allow bacteria to enter through broken skin causing secondary infection.

Many people live with the symptoms for months, assuming they will disappear on their own, but fungal infections often persist or keep returning without appropriate assessment.

It is especially important not to ignore a fungal skin infection if you have diabetes, poor circulation, neuropathy, reduced sensation, a weakened immune system or a history of foot ulcers.

Broken skin can increase the risk of more serious complications and should be assessed promptly.
Not every rash, crack or itchy foot is a fungal infection. Conditions such as eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis and bacterial infections can look very similar, which is why an accurate assessment is so important.

I believe foot care is a partnership. I provide the professional care, expertise and guidance, while my Partners—my patients—work alongside me to achieve healthier, happier feet.

If you are concerned about your feet or have a skin problem that isn't improving, don't ignore it.

Do you recognise the difference between routine foot care and professional foot health treatment?

"How can I make you comfortable today? VS
"What is causing this problem, why does it keep returning, and how can we improve it for longer?”

Professional foot health care is not only about making your feet feel comfortable on the day of treatment.
Routine foot care can reduce hard skin, trim nails, relieve pressure, and improve comfort between appointments. While this is valuable, evidence-based foot health guidance shows that lasting improvement often depends on identifying the factors that caused the problem in the first place — not simply removing the symptom.

A professional foot health treatment looks at the bigger picture. This includes your medical history, skin and nail condition, footwear, lifestyle, activity level, pressure points, previous injuries, medication, and any underlying health conditions that may affect your feet.

NICE guidance on diabetic foot problems, for example, highlights the importance of assessing risk factors such as neuropathy, reduced circulation, callus, infection, inflammation, deformity, and previous ulceration.

Diabetes UK also advises regular foot checks, suitable footwear, careful nail care, moisturising, and seeking expert advice when problems appear.

The aim is not simply to ask, “How can I make you comfortable today?” but rather, “What is causing this problem, why does it keep returning, and how can we improve it for longer?”

Conditions such as corns, callus, cracked heels, thickened nails, fungal infections, and recurring ingrown toenails often need more than one-off treatment. They need assessment, explanation, tailored aftercare, and a realistic treatment plan.

This approach is also reflected in NHS and NICE guidance, where prevention, early assessment, patient education, and appropriate referral are central to reducing complications and supporting long-term foot health.

By identifying and addressing the contributing factors, professional foot health care can help reduce recurrence, support healthier skin and nails, protect mobility, and provide longer-lasting comfort — not just relief until the next six-week appointment.

Fenestration as a treatment for fungal nail infection — “Opening windows in my nail… what?!”

How can that help if I have a fungal nail infection?

The word fenestration means creating small openings or “windows.” In fungal nail care, it refers to making tiny, controlled channels in the thickened or infected nail plate.

Why can it help? How does it work?
And most importantly — do I definitely have a fungal nail infection?

This is where I can help.
Following a visual assessment of the nails — and, if needed, diagnostic sampling — I provide personalised nail treatment and support my patients throughout the whole healing journey.
Because yes, fungal nail infection can be a stubborn condition. It takes time, patience, and consistency to achieve successful results.

But together, we have a much better chance.

👣 Diabetic foot care: why prevention matters

If you or someone you care for has diabetes, regular foot care is not just about comfort — it can be an important part of preventing more serious problems.

Research shows that the lifetime risk of developing a diabetic foot ulcer is estimated at 19–34% for people with diabetes. Once an ulcer develops, the consequences can be serious: around 50–60% of diabetic foot ulcers become infected, and about 20% of moderate to severe diabetic foot infections can lead to lower-limb amputation.

That is why prevention matters.

With diabetes, reduced sensation, poorer circulation or slower healing can mean that small problems — or even unsuitable footwear — may not feel painful at all.
Callus is not “just hard skin” in a diabetic foot. It can be a sign of repeated pressure. If sensation is reduced, that pressure may not hurt — but the skin underneath can still be vulnerable.

Evidence-based diabetic foot guidelines recommend regular foot checks as part of preventative care. They also highlight the importance of treating problems such as corns and fungal infections early, especially in people who are at risk of ulceration.

Don’t wait until it is too late. Book an appointment for foot screening and start your preventative foot care plan.

Nail Reconstructions - The Foot Health Professional 04/04/2024

The traumatised nail is healthy and it is growing back nicely. It takes time till we have the whole natural nailplate back so a bit of beauty improvement was necessary to take place. The solution is: building a WildePedique - Nail reconstruction.

It must be highlighted that this treatment can be provided by a professional: Foot Health Professional or Podiatrist in order to avoid any risks like further damage of the nailplate, matrix or causing nail or skin infection.

After the assessments and discussion with my patient I use a hypoallergenic gel, which hardens under UV light. The result is a nice reconstructed nail which is ready to apply varnish on.

Hadewe pedikűrgép SPR3 24/01/2024

I am so happy when I am remembering this...

I posted the below announcement around 4 months after I started my business in Budapest in 2012 about purchasing my first podiatry machine. It was one of my ever best investments for my future career.

Using that strong podiatry machine, I could serve my patients at a higher quality.

Of course time is passing by... Although I have changed that machine for a much better one, a Ruck PodoNova 3, not to mention the fact that I have changed countries and I have worked and lived in the United Kingdom since 2021, this memory about the Hadewe is always will be a nice memory

Have a great day to all of you :)
