If you are a hair loss specialist and see patients with hair loss, I’m going to let you in on a little secret. Actually, four of them. Perhaps you know them all. Perhaps you don’t.

25% of what it takes to be a good hair practitioner involves the simple task of opening the door and turning on the lights. People with hair loss need help and just being there is step 1. It is important to realize that when humans beings are afraid, they almost universally look for a place to seek refuge.  Much good can come simply from being that shelter.

The next 25 % of what it takes to be a good hair loss practitioner involves just opening your ears, eyes, and heart. In the precious and limited number of minutes dedicated to the appointment, listen and look like everything matters.   Care for patients in the way that you hope might someday await you in the event the roles were flipped.

The next 25 % of what it takes to be a good hair loss practitioner involves opening your mind.   It is incredible just much we can do if we practice using evidence based principles and let science and research be a guiding light.  It is amazing how much we can do if we realize that not all treatments are the same and popular does not equate to effective.

The last 25 % of what it takes to be a good hair loss practitioner involves a simple willingness to open the door and turn on the lights for the patient again at any point in the future. Knowing that there is someone - somewhere - who will be there to offer help regardless of the situation is more healing to the patient than anything that can ever be written on a prescription pad. 03/08/2024

Tips to get healthier hair in the winter!

-Try to minimise the use of heat, and use products that suit your hair and scalp. A daily defence spray will help protect the hair

-Hair needs protein in order to grow, it really is essential for optimal hair growth. Eating lean protein for both breakfast and lunch during winter is recommended

-Moisturise dry hair in the winter. Invest in a good conditioning treatment, applying once or twice a week and ideally leaving it on for 30 mins to an hour for an added moisture boost

-Washing hair frequently helps keep the scalp in optimum health, which provides the best environment for hair to grow
