IMPROVEMENTS TO THE JUNCTION OF BROOK LANE, FLANDERWELL LANE AND MAIN STREET IN BRAMLEY.

Redrow Homes have entered into a s278 Highway Act 1980 agreement to provide highway improvements that were conditioned as part of the Poppy Fields residential development. Redrow Homes will fund the works and fund inspection by the Council.

The works are the removal of some of the existing embankment on Brook Lane and the formation of a retaining wall, that in turn will allow the construction of an additional southbound traffic lane on Brook Lane running up to the existing mini roundabout at Main Street and Flanderwell Lane. (Brook Lane and Main Street represent the B6093). The existing mini roundabout will be relocated approximately 5m to the northwest. The existing pedestrian refuge will also be relocated and there will be some carriageway widening to the Main Street approach to the junction. The junction and adjacent footpaths will be resurfaced and the junction will be relined and new high friction surfacing will be applied. Utility services will be diverted at the same time.

Much of the works will be undertaken using temporary traffic lights but these will be in operation 24 hours a day. The removal of the existing embankment on Brook Lane and the narrow width of Brook Lane means that this element of the works cannot be undertaken safely without a road closure. The closure of Brook Lane will be timed to coincide with the school summer holidays. The scheme as a whole is expected to be underway between 16th June and the 5th October.
