Shoulder Pain: Why It Happens & How We Help You Fix It

📍 Based Madhouse Gym Rotherham

Shoulder pain has a way of creeping into everyday life reaching into cupboards, lifting at the gym, even getting dressed. It’s one of the most common issues we see in clinic, and the good news is this: most shoulder problems are completely treatable with the right guidance.

Your shoulder is the most mobile joint in your body, which also makes it one of the easiest to irritate. Pain often builds gradually a bit of neck tightness, upper‑back stiffness, or muscles working harder than they should. Over time, this can lead to irritation, weakness, or that familiar “pinching” feeling when you lift your arm.

If you’re noticing a sharp catch when reaching up, a dull ache after training, clicking that wasn’t there before, or pain that’s starting to affect sleep, your shoulder is asking for attention. These are early signs that the joint isn’t moving as smoothly as it should.

Gentle movement helps. Light mobility, strengthening around the shoulder blade, and easing off anything that causes sharp pain can make a real difference. But if the pain has been hanging around for more than a week, keeps returning, or is stopping you from training or sleeping comfortably, an assessment is the quickest way to get answers.

If you’ve ever had back pain from gardening, a stiff knee after a long walk, or a shoulder that suddenly “twinges” when you reach up you’ve already been through the early stages of rehab without realising it.

Here’s the simple version of how rehab actually works:

---

1. Acute Phase — Settle Things Down

When it’s sore, swollen, or suddenly painful.

Examples:
• Back pain after lifting something
• Rolled ankle
• Sharp shoulder pinch

---

2. Restore Movement — Get Things Moving Again

Once it calms down, we gently restore normal movement.

Examples:
• Bending without your back grabbing
• Walking without stiffness
• Reaching overhead comfortably

---

3. Rebuild Capacity — Strengthen the Area

This is the stage most people skip — and why things keep coming back.

Examples:
• Back strong enough for housework
• Ankle stable enough for uneven ground
• Shoulder strong enough for daily tasks

---

4. Functional Loading — Back to Real Life

Gradually returning to the things you want to do.

Examples:
• Carrying shopping
• Longer walks
• Hobbies, classes, gym
• Work tasks

---

5. Full Function — Confident & Capable Again

Moving well, feeling strong, and not worrying about flare‑ups.

---

If you’re stuck in pain, or something keeps coming back, drop me a message.

I’ll help you figure out which stage you’re in and what the next right step is so you can get back to normal life without guessing.

If you want more weight on the bar, you don’t need to train harder you need a body that can tolerate heavier load.
That’s where sports therapy comes in.

When lifters come to see me, they’re usually stuck in a cycle of pushing, plateauing, backing off because something hurts, then pushing again.
My job isn’t to write your programme it’s to understand why your body is hitting that ceiling in the first place.

Here’s how I approach strength from a clinical perspective:

1. Movement Efficiency

Before we talk load, I look at how your body organises itself under the bar.
Bar path, joint stacking, bracing, foot pressure these things matter more than people realise.

How I help:
I assess your movement clinically and show you the positions that reduce stress and increase force output. Small changes, big impact.

2. Tissue Capacity

If a tendon, ligament, or muscle group isn’t tolerating load well, your strength will always be capped.

How I help:
I identify the tissues that are limiting your lift and give you targeted loading strategies to build resilience not random accessory work, but clinically driven conditioning.

3. Neuromuscular Efficiency

Strength is a skill.
If your nervous system isn’t recruiting efficiently, the bar will always feel heavier than it should.

How I help:
I break down where your force production is leaking and help you improve timing, control, and recruitment.

4. Load Management

Most plateaus aren’t strength issues they’re fatigue issues.

How I help:
I guide you in adjusting load so your tissues adapt instead of flare. This keeps you progressing without the boom‑and‑bust cycle.

5. Recovery Behaviours

Recovery isn’t optional. It’s physiology.

How I help:
I look at sleep, stress, nutrition, and movement patterns to identify what’s limiting your strength expression — and give you realistic strategies that fit your life.

6. Pain-Informed Training

Pain doesn’t always mean stop but it does mean pay attention.

How I help:
I help you understand what your pain is signalling, modify movements safely, and rebuild confidence under load.

What You Get in Clinic

You’re not getting a PT session.
You’re getting:

A clinical movement assessment
Identification of your limiting factors
Tissue‑specific loading strategies
Pain informed guidance
Clear steps that integrate into your current training
Support that complements your coach or programme

This is how we put more weight on the bar through precision, not punishment.

If you want to book in or chat through what’s holding you back, just drop me a message.

Plantar Fasciitis: How It Affects Daily Life and How I Help People Recover

Plantar fasciitis is one of those conditions that seems small on the surface, but I see every day how deeply it can affect someone’s quality of life. That sharp, stabbing heel pain with the first steps in the morning or after sitting isn’t just uncomfortable — it can change the way you move, work, train, and even how you feel about your day.

When someone comes to me with plantar fasciitis, they’re often frustrated, tired of the cycle of pain, and unsure what to do next. And I get it. When every step hurts, everything becomes harder.

---

How It Impacts Quality of Life

• Daily movement becomes a challenge — Walking, standing, climbing stairs, or even doing basic tasks at home can trigger pain.
• The morning pain cycle Those first steps out of bed can be brutal, and that alone can set the tone for the day.
• Work becomes harder Especially for people who stand or walk a lot at work.
• Exercise takes a hit Running, lifting, classes, and even long walks become limited, which affects both physical and mental wellbeing.
• It wears you down emotionally Persistent pain is exhausting. It affects motivation, mood, and confidence.

---

How I Help

My role is to reduce pain, restore movement, and rebuild confidence. I combine hands‑on treatment with movement‑based rehab and clear, practical education so people understand what’s happening and how to get better.

Here’s what I focus on:

• Biomechanical assessment — I look at gait, foot posture, calf tension, and loading patterns to find the root cause.
• Manual therapy — Targeted soft‑tissue work to reduce tension and improve mobility.
• Strength and stretch programmes — Calf loading, plantar fascia stretching, and intrinsic foot strengthening are key evidence‑based tools.
• Shockwave therapy — A powerful option for stubborn or long‑standing cases.
• Taping — Helpful for reducing pain during daily activity.
• Footwear and insole guidance — Supportive footwear can make a huge difference.
• Load management and education — I help people understand what to do, what to avoid, and how to progress safely.

⚡ Still Living With That Same Annoying Pain

This might be the thing that finally changes it.

Most of the people who come to see me aren’t athletes they’re parents, nurses, joiners, office workers, lifters, dog walkers, and people who’ve been “just getting on with it” for months.

And almost every week I hear:
“I thought it would go away on its own.”

If that’s you… you’re definitely not alone.
And this is exactly where shockwave therapy alongside the other treatments I offer is helping people finally move forward.

---

💥 What Shockwave Actually Does (in real‑world terms)

• Kick‑starts healing again — Perfect for stubborn issues that haven’t budged for months.
• Calms oversensitive nerves — So you can move without that sharp, nagging reminder.
• Improves tissue quality — Stronger, healthier tendons = fewer flare‑ups.
• Gets your rehab working — When pain drops, progress finally starts.

---

🧰 Other Treatments I Use to Help You Recover

Because no single treatment fixes everything it’s the right combination that gets results.

• Sports therapy — Hands‑on treatment, movement correction, and tailored rehab.
• Deep tissue & soft‑tissue therapy — Reduces tension, improves mobility, and supports recovery.
• Injury assessment — Clear diagnosis, clear plan, no guesswork.
• Rehab programming — Strength based, practical, and built around your life.
• Mobility & movement coaching — Helping you move better so pain doesn’t keep coming back.

Shockwave is powerful but it’s even better when combined with the right clinical approach.

---

🦵 The Problems I See It Help Most

• Plantar fasciitis
• Achilles pain
• Tennis elbow
• Hip/gluteal tendinopathy
• Knee tendon pain

If you’ve had pain for 3+ months, this is often the missing piece.

---

🧍‍♀️ Who This Is For

Shockwave + sports therapy is ideal if you:

• wake up stiff or sore
• avoid certain movements because they “set it off”
• have tried resting, stretching, or Googling it
• feel older than you are because of pain
• want a clear plan and real progress

If that sounds familiar… you’re exactly who I help every day.

---

🩺 What a Session Feels Like

• 5–10 minutes
• Mild discomfort (you’re in control)
• No downtime
• You walk out feeling like you’ve finally done something proactive for your body
