What skin type are you?

Apologies for posting this unattractive image however I felt it important to share my personal experience of how UV exposure has damaged my skin so that you can educate yourself on the risks of sun exposure and in the hope that you will think twice about using tanning salons.

Following a concern with a growth on the bridge of my nose I was referred to dermatology who prescribed me with a topical chemotherapy treatment.

There was a risk that even though the treatment was applied to that specific area that it would highlight other surrounding areas of damage. You can see from the image that I have a more concerning area of damage on my cheek and I was totally unaware of this pre-treatment. There are other smaller areas on my nose and even on my right eyebrow too.

Although this looks pretty awful and the reason why I have refrained from posting on socials (front views anyway), I know that had I not made that initial appointment with my doctor that I could have possibly left it too long, where this treatment might not have been an option for me.

Looking after our skin is so important. I know that we focus more on skin treatments to improve our skin aesthetically however we also need to be mindful that looking after our skin from a health perspective is vital and shouldn’t be overlooked.

I will have to apply a high factor SPF everyday now, rain or shine, in every season but we should already be doing that regardless.
My advice, make it the very basis to your skincare regime every morning so that it becomes a habit and a promise to yourself to look after your skin health and please don’t use those tanning beds, reach for the false tan instead every time.

So today I witnessed my first positive aspiration by a fellow practitioner performing cheek filler on a client. As practitioners we are trained on what to expect and the importance of aspiration when injecting fillers however seeing it first hand is priceless and it’s surprising how that everything that you were trained does in fact prepare you for this event.
Some practitioners have never experienced this even though they’ve been performing these treatments for years. Knowing what to do in these circumstances is vital in eradicating the chances of a vascular occlusion.
All of the necessary steps were taken and it was still possible to finish the treatment successfully.
We discussed the steps taken together and with the client.
This demonstrates that not all treatments are without risk but with a confident and fully trained practitioner you are in safe hands.
