MANAGING LYMPHOEDEMA
Lymphoedema is a long-term condition, but appropriate management may help control swelling, protect the skin and reduce the risk of complications.
Gentle movement, good skin care, staying hydrated, maintaining a healthy weight and wearing correctly fitted compression when advised can all form part of lymphoedema management.
Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) may also support lymphatic flow and help with swelling as part of an appropriate care plan.
PROFESSIONAL DISCLAIMER
I do not diagnose lymphoedema or replace medical care. New, unexplained, sudden or worsening swelling should always be assessed by your GP or an appropriate healthcare professional before treatment. MLD is not suitable for everyone, and a full consultation is required before treatment.

FACIAL COMPRESSION GARMENTS โ WHY ARE THEY USED?
Facial compression garments may form an important part of recovery following certain facial and neck procedures, including facelifts, neck lifts, chin or jaw surgery and facial/neck liposuction.
They may also be recommended following lymph node removal or where swelling or lymphatic fluid build-up affects the face or neck.
When appropriately fitted and recommended by your surgeon or healthcare professional, compression may help to:
โ Support swollen tissues
โ Help manage post-operative swelling
โ Minimise bruising
โ Provide gentle, consistent support
โ Support the healing process
โ Help manage facial or neck lymphoedema
The correct fit is extremely important. A garment should never simply be made tighter in an attempt to reduce swelling faster. Always follow the advice of your surgeon, lymphoedema specialist or healthcare professional regarding the correct garment, pressure and length of wear.
If you have had lymph nodes removed or are experiencing persistent or unexplained facial or neck swelling, seek appropriate medical advice before starting compression or lymphatic drainage.
Every recovery is different โ aftercare should be individual too. ๐

Hyperkeratosis & Lymphoedema
Hyperkeratosis is a thickening of the outer layer of the skin caused by a build-up of keratin. It can develop with long-term or poorly controlled lymphoedema, where persistent swelling and inflammation lead to changes in the skin.
The skin may become thick, rough, hard, dry or โbark-likeโ and can be more vulnerable to cracking and infection.
Good lymphoedema management and skin care are important. If you notice significant skin changes, seek advice from your GP or lymphoedema specialist for appropriate assessment and treatment.

Lymphorrhoea is when lymphatic fluid leaks through the skin, often due to significant swelling or advanced lymphoedema. The skin may become fragile and unable to contain the excess fluid, causing clear or pale fluid to seep from the affected area.
Itโs important to keep the skin clean and protected and seek medical advice, as leaking skin can increase the risk of infection. Lymphoedema management, appropriate compression and lymphatic drainage may form part of a wider treatment plan when clinically suitable.

Is Your Lymphatic System Struggling?
When the lymphatic system isnโt functioning efficiently, fluid may build up in the tissues, contributing to swelling, puffiness, feelings of heaviness or tightness and general discomfort.
Lymphatic drainage uses gentle, specialised techniques to support the natural movement of lymphatic fluid and may help reduce swelling and leave you feeling lighter and more comfortable.

Lymphoedema & Lymphatic Drainage
Lymphoedema is a long-term condition where lymphatic fluid builds up in the tissues, causing persistent swelling, heaviness, tightness and discomfort, most commonly in the arms or legs.
Specialist lymphatic drainage uses gentle, targeted techniques to encourage lymphatic fluid movement and may help manage swelling, improve comfort and support lymphatic function as part of an appropriate lymphoedema management plan.
Early assessment and ongoing management are important, particularly if swelling is new, worsening or unexplained.
