What an absolutely incredible night! ❤️

This weekend we had the honour of being invited to such a fantastic awards evening — and to top it all off, OCTO WON THE AWARD FOR BEST CHARITABLE COMPANY! 🥹🏆

I genuinely can’t put into words how proud I felt standing there and accepting this award. OCTO means so much to me, and what started from simply wanting to help people going through hair loss has grown into something far bigger than I ever imagined.

To have the work we do recognised in this way is such an honour. Every wig, every appointment, every person we support and every little bit of confidence we can give back is the reason we do what we do. 👑❤️

The whole evening was absolutely brilliant from start to finish. We laughed, celebrated, danced, probably drank a little too much 😂 and just had the BEST time. The atmosphere was incredible and it was so lovely being surrounded by so many amazing people and businesses.

We were able to give Ciara her princess hair free of charge yesterday thanks to you all ✨

Ciara has an aggressive form of breast cancer that has thankfully been caught early enough to treat. Shes had surgery on the lump and lymph nodes and will be having about 9 months of treatment involving chemo and radiation. She plans on cold capping in the hope It can grow her hair back, but will likely shave it when it’s really sparse.

“I’m someone who doesn’t feel me without long hair and couldn’t fathom being bald and also the effect that would have on my 2 small kids.

I knew the kind of wig I wanted and after much research it looked like it was going to cost me £3000 which was way beyond what I could afford. I was unable to secure any funding or nhs help and was considering setting up a go fund me, but then I was recommended the hair extension cave. My consultations were amazing. Everyone was so nice and accommodating and the appointment was so much fun. I got exactly the type of wig I dreamt of and I haven’t had to worry about paying huge amounts of money for it with has removed a massive burden. Now I don’t dread my hair falling out, but welcome it as a new start and I’ve got gorgeous wigs to make me feel like me while I reclaim what this disease has tried to take from me”

Meet Bailey.

A young boy who, in January, was told he had a tumour in his pelvis. After months of uncertainty, multiple surgeries and an agonising wait, Bailey was diagnosed with an extremely rare and aggressive cancer called myxoid pleomorphic liposarcoma.

Since then he has endured more than most adults will face in a lifetime.

He has undergone major life-changing surgery, been left with a permanent stoma and catheter, had to learn to walk again, faced chemotherapy, and is now preparing for weeks of radiotherapy.

But there was one part of his journey that broke his heart more than anything else…

His hair.

His mum told us that Bailey was so frightened of losing it that he wouldn’t wash his hair for five weeks, hoping it would stay just a little longer.

For a young lad who had always loved his thick hair, losing it felt harder than the surgeries themselves.

Today, Liam and I had the privilege of visiting Bailey at home to fit him with a men’s hair system through OCTO.

The smile that returned to his face…

The excitement of immediately FaceTiming his friends…

The confidence to stand proudly for photos again…

Those are the moments that remind us why this charity exists.

Hair doesn’t cure cancer.

But confidence helps people fight it.

For so many people undergoing chemotherapy, hair loss is a daily reminder of the battle they’re fighting. Restoring someone’s appearance can help restore their identity, dignity and confidence during one of the hardest times of their life.

And it’s not just women.

Men lose their confidence too.

Children lose their confidence too.

Yet support and awareness for them is still incredibly limited.

We’re determined to change that.

Thank you, Bailey, and thank you to your amazing family for allowing us to share your story. It was an absolute honour to meet you, and everyone at OCTO will be cheering you on through the rest of your treatment.
