🔥 When the weather turns cooler and everyone seems to be sniffling… this is one of those little jars I like to have in the kitchen.
Our Hot Honey is ridiculously simple to make — raw honey mixed with ginger, turmeric, Ceylon cinnamon, cayenne and a good pinch of black pepper.
It’s warming, spicy, sweet and definitely has a little kick. 🌶️🍯
I like to stir a spoonful into a mug of hot water and sip it slowly, particularly on those days when I’m feeling a little run down or the inevitable seasonal sniffles have arrived.
And this is very much what A Gentle Way of Living means to me.
Not complicated wellness routines or trying to do everything perfectly.
Sometimes it’s simply opening the kitchen cupboard and making something from ingredients that have been traditionally used in homes for generations. 🌿
The recipe is on the image, so save it for one of those cold, cosy days when you fancy giving it a try.
One tip — start gently with the cayenne. 😂🔥
You can always make it hotter. You cannot un-hot the honey!
As always, this is simply something we enjoy in our own kitchen and share for general wellbeing inspiration — it’s not intended to treat or prevent illness or replace medical advice.
From Our Kitchen, to yours. 🤍

🤍 This isn’t something I’d usually share here.
Normally, something involving me and one of the boys would stay over on my personal profile.
But this one feels worth bringing into the Oat & Sage space too.
On 10th October, Tyde and I will be taking part in The Big Sleep Out in support of The Forge Project and World Homeless Day.
We’ll be spending the night outside.
And while one night could never give us a true understanding of what it means to experience homelessness, it gives us an opportunity to step outside our own comfort, raise awareness and support an organisation helping people for whom this isn’t a one-night choice.
I also know that quite a few people who follow Oat & Sage are self-employed, run small businesses, or are trying to build something of their own.
And I think that gives many of us a particular understanding of just how many plates can be spinning behind the scenes.
Making enough this month.
Paying the bills.
Keeping the business going.
Looking after a family.
Dealing with the unexpected.
Trying again when something hasn’t worked.
We can make things look beautifully put together from the outside while knowing how quickly life can become difficult when just one or two of those plates fall.
Of course, financial difficulty doesn’t automatically lead to homelessness, and people’s routes into homelessness are varied and complex.
But I think it’s important sometimes to remember that security isn’t something everybody gets to take for granted.
That’s part of why I wanted Tyde to do this alongside me too.
Home education for us has always included experiencing the world beyond books — learning about our communities, other people’s lives, empathy, responsibility and the ways we can contribute rather than simply observe.
So on the 10th, that’s exactly what we’ll be doing. 🤍
One night outside.
Not pretending we understand what it is to be homeless.
Just choosing to give a little of our comfort, our time and our attention to those who don’t get to go home in the morning.
If you’d like to support Tyde and me, I’ll pop the link to our fundraising page in the comments below. Every little bit of support is hugely appreciated. 🤍

🌿 A Gentle Way of Living isn’t a set of rules. It’s something I come back to.
Over time, six pillars have emerged behind Oat & Sage — and I’ve realised I use them as an anchor in my own life far more than I ever expected to.
🤍 Make Space for the Written Word
💧 Gentle Hydration
🌿 Nourish With Respect
🤍 Honour Feelings & Choose Direction
🎨 Moments of Creative Expression
✨ Quiet Gratitude
They aren’t habits I have to tick off each day.
They’re simply areas I can return to and ask myself:
How am I feeling? What’s working? What isn’t? Is there a small change that might help?
Sometimes those changes are physical.
Choosing food by listening rather than restricting. Drinking more water. Resting when my body needs it. Becoming more aware of the everyday products we use — which ultimately led me to the wonderful independent makers behind many of the natural soaps and body products we’ve shared through Oat & Sage.
Sometimes they’re emotional.
Recognising how I’m feeling rather than ignoring it, and deciding what I want to do with that information.
And lately, one pillar in particular has found its way back into my life…
Creative expression.
I’ve started making again.
Paper clay. Handmade vessels. Playing with colour and texture. And now I’m beginning to experiment with textured art too.
I’ve been surprised by how quiet my mind becomes when my hands are busy creating something. There’s no rush to finish. No need for perfection. Just the process of making.
And that’s made me realise something about Oat & Sage too.
A Gentle Way of Living isn’t something I’ve created simply to talk about online or attach to products.
I’m living it alongside you.
It changes as I change. It reminds me to notice when something isn’t working and gives me permission to explore something that might.
Sometimes that’s a different product beside the sink.
Sometimes it’s picking up a book.
Sometimes it’s making something with your hands.
And sometimes it might even mean allowing the direction you’re travelling in to evolve. 🌿
That’s what these six pillars mean to me.
Not perfection.
Just little anchors to come back to when life gets noisy. 🤍

🌿 Something rather unexpected has happened through Oat & Sage… I’ve started creating again.
Creativity has gradually become one of the pillars behind A Gentle Way of Living — but somewhere along the way, it seems to have rubbed off on me too. 🤍
Recently I’ve found myself experimenting with paper clay, creating vessels by hand and playing with shape, texture and colour.
What surprised me most wasn’t really the finished pieces.
It was how much I enjoyed the making of them.
Turning paper into pulp. Mixing the clay. Working it with my hands. Building a shape slowly. Waiting. Adjusting. Painting.
It’s a process that can’t really be rushed, and I’ve found something incredibly mindful about that.
These are some of my first experiments, and they’re certainly not perfect — but I think that’s part of what I’m enjoying about them. Each one has its own shape, texture and little quirks.
I’m also beginning to experiment with textured artwork, so who knows where this little creative journey might lead.
For now, I’m simply enjoying creating again.
But perhaps I’ll start taking you behind the scenes from here too — sharing some of the making, experimenting and inevitable moments where an idea doesn’t quite go to plan. 😂
It feels quite fitting that a pillar of Oat & Sage intended to encourage a little more creativity in everyday life has ended up doing exactly that for me. 🌿
Maybe A Gentle Way of Living is evolving alongside me too.

🌿 Three simple swaps. One place to begin.
If you’ve been thinking about exploring natural bars but haven’t quite known where to start, we’ve made it really simple.
Our new O&S Body Starter Set brings together three everyday swaps:
🫧 A Shampoo Bar
🌿 A Botanical Body Bar
🤍 A Facial Bar
Usually £24.90 when bought separately, we’ve brought them together for £20 as a little invitation to explore something different.
And here’s the important bit… the sooner you order, the more choice you’ll have when it comes to fragrances. Some of our Botanical Edit bars are now down to their final few.
We’re making way for new seasonal pieces, so once these particular bars are gone, they’re gone — and we don’t have many sets available at this price.
£20 per set
🤍 Free local delivery
📦 UK postage £2.99
If you’d like one, simply comment below or drop me a message and I’ll send you a payment link.
You can then let me know your fragrance preferences and I’ll do my best to match them from what’s still available.
A lovely little starting point for anyone curious about making a few gentler swaps — without changing everything at once. 🌿
Small swaps. Beautiful changes.

🤍 This is exactly why the right collaborations matter.
Seeing this post from Amber at The Little Nurture Nest this morning made me smile.
When we first started talking about Oat & Sage supporting her Baby Spa sessions, it wasn’t about simply putting our products somewhere new.
It was about finding someone whose approach already felt aligned with ours — thoughtful choices, gentle care and considering the little details that can make an everyday experience feel that bit more special.
Amber has now chosen to introduce our Gentle Baby Body Wash and Baby Bum Balm into her Baby Spa experiences, giving parents the option to use them during their little one’s session. And there’s even a little O&S lip balm for Mama too. 🤍
For a small business like ours, this kind of collaboration means so much more than simply having products used somewhere else.
It allows people to see them, use them and experience them in a setting where they naturally belong — supported by someone who genuinely understands why they were chosen.
And after all my thoughts recently about how people discover handmade and natural products, this feels particularly lovely to see. 🌿
Thank you Amber for trusting Oat & Sage to become a little part of the beautiful experience you’ve created at The Little Nurture Nest.
This is the kind of growth I want for Oat & Sage — thoughtful, connected and with the right people. 🤍

🧼 Perhaps we’ve been overlooking the humble bar of soap…
When we talk about beautiful handmade soap, it’s easy to think of it as something for the bath or shower.
But actually, one of the simplest places to make the switch is right beside the sink. 🌿
We wash our hands countless times without really thinking about it. A pump, a squeeze, rinse and go.
So why not make that tiny everyday moment a little more lovely?
Our Bliss Botanicals Spa Bars are handmade in small batches using natural ingredients, with beautiful combinations of botanicals, clays and essential oils.
And because they’re handmade, they’re not perfectly identical.
The colours vary.
The swirls change.
The botanicals sit a little differently on every bar.
That’s part of their beauty.
Pop one onto a draining soap dish beside the kitchen or bathroom sink and suddenly something incredibly ordinary becomes a small daily ritual.
No plastic bottle required.
No elaborate routine.
Just beautiful soap, made slowly by somebody who genuinely knows their craft.
And perhaps that’s where natural swaps make the most sense.
Not changing everything at once.
Just noticing the things we use every day and, when they run out, occasionally choosing something a little different. 🤍
Small daily luxuries. A gentler way of living. 🌿

🍫 Chocolate pudding… with a little twist.
Carrot. Cauliflower. Sweet potato.
Probably not the three ingredients you’d expect me to put next to the words chocolate pudding. 😂
But that’s exactly what I love about playing around in the kitchen.
Sometimes it’s simply about looking at an everyday ingredient and wondering…
“What else could I do with this?”
So today’s From Our Kitchen is one simple idea, made three different ways.
🥕 Carrot & Chocolate
🤍 Cauliflower & Chocolate
🍠 Sweet Potato & Chocolate
Each vegetable brings something slightly different — natural sweetness, creaminess or texture — while the chocolate very much remains the star of the show. Because if we’re calling it chocolate pudding, it needs to taste like chocolate pudding. 😂🍫
There’s no message here about hiding vegetables, making dessert “good” or “bad”, or replacing the pudding you already love.
It’s simply another way to make something.
And perhaps that’s one of my favourite parts of spending time in the kitchen — experimenting, creating and occasionally discovering that two things you would never have put together actually work beautifully.
Save this one and have a little experiment.
And if you make one, I’d genuinely love to know which version you chose. 🤍
