Mitchell Flower Farm Sevenoaks

We’re watering every evening to keep the flowers going during these hot, dry days. Some, like the statice, phlox, dahlias and cosmos, are more resilient to drying out a bit, but I’ve noticed that fast growing annuals like cornflowers are flowering fast and then going over more quickly than usual and I’m deadheading scabious madly. Yesterday I mowed some of the meadow around the flower patch - the oxeye daisies should soon grow and reflower for September. Even in this ‘sweet spot’ of summer when the hard work of digging and planting is over, you always have to plan ahead! Today I’ll take up the home-made comfrey feed that has been brewing in a bucket in the garden for two weeks to give the sweetpeas and snapdragons a boost - think I might need to drive with the windows open 😂

It’s been hot. Tonight when it was finally cool enough to venture up to the field I was deadheading and thinking what a lovely peaceful time of day it was to be up there.
