Autumn is genuinely the best time to start prepping your skin. UV is lower, so peels and laser are back on the table, and your barrier needs the help before the heating goes on. The three things I'd start with: vitamin C for the pigmentation summer left behind, hyaluronic acid for hydration, and SPF, because September is not the month to stop.
