After 3.5 weeks these nails are READY for a re-fresh 💫
A naturally curved apex means nails can easily look bulky especially if product is applied too thick….
But great retention starts with great application ✨
It’s not about applying more product — it’s about applying it correctly.
Proper structure, controlled product placement, and avoiding bulk are what create long-lasting nails with no lifting, even after weeks of growth.
A clean application means:

✅ Flush cuticle work
✅ No bulky sidewalls
✅ Better balance and durability

Here are the biggest Beginner mistakes I see as a Fully Accredited Nail Educator…..
❌COMPARING YOUR JOURNEY/WORK TO OTHERS…..
comparison is the THIEF of joy.
Dont compare your Day 1 to someone else’s Day 100.
✅ If you practice, have patience and focus on your own path then you’re making progress! No matter how small.
❌RUNNING BEFORE YOU CAN WALK….
This sounds harsh - I know how exciting nail art is to do and how pretty it looks
✅ Taking time to perfect the basics like proper prep, shaping, product application and finish is more important to begin with
❌FEELING TIME PRESSURE…
It can be scary having a new client sat in front of you - you start to overthink and panic that each step is taking too long so you start to rush
✅ Set standards that you know you can meet, be honest with yourself and your clients…. Make sure they know your timings and stick to simple sets unless they are happy to sit longer for nail art (if that’s something you want to offer) Technique first. Speed comes later.
❌NOT CHARGING YOUR WORTH….
It’s easy to think new clients are the ones doing YOU a favour by booking with you as you start out on your new venture.
✅ Remember you are building a business. You have invested in new skills, bought expensive products and equipment and you should be paid for your time, effort and investment!
❌SAYING YES TO EVERY CLIENT….
Not every client is right for you, if someone or something they want makes you feel uncomfortable it’s ok to politely say no.
✅ Boundaries are part of setting your professional standards. You’re setting the bar for your future
❌LETTING SMALL MISTAKES KNOCK YOUR CONFIDENCE ….
Mistakes mean you’re learning.
✅ By focusing on what’s not perfect, you miss how far you’ve already come. Progress comes from correction, not perfection.

I’ve always had my trusty ‘Penny’ medium for removal of products for infills but I’m excited to use the ‘Poppy’ to speed up my times - tried and tested today on my clients and I can’t believe I didn’t do it sooner!
I also got the ‘Kossak’ Fine, for a more comfortable, precise cuticle prep
And of course my trusty 180 grit sanding bands 😍

Let’s talk Nail Types….
I am my worst client 😂
It has taken a long time to perfect my technique on my own nails - I like them to look as flat and as short as possible, which is pretty much the opposite of what they want to be 🤦♀️👇🏻
• Long Nail Beds - Not a bad thing! But they will never look short and cute
• High Hyponychium - Dictates how short I can actually take my nails before I’m filing skin at the free edge 😖
• Naturally Curved Apex - Strength built-in, but I need to be mindful of how much product I apply in order to avoid them looking ‘bulky’.
• Thick Cuticles & sensitive surrounding skin - Satisfying removal of non-living tissue around cuticles but care must be taken to avoid making skin sore
❌ Not every set is one-size-fits-all —
Different nail types, different skin, different approach. What works for one client might not work for the next.
✅ knowing how to adjust your prep, products, and technique makes all the difference.
🎓 Better knowledge = Better techniques, better retention, healthier nails, and overall better results
