This week has been full of so much new knowledge for our learners, the outcomes we have seen in lessons have been incredible!

Today Silv and Sally took a group of post-16 learners to the local Fire Station to have a look around and learn about all the hard work that goes into working as part of the fire and rescue service! 😎

This Tuesday Zoe's level 2 hairdressing group have been working on cutting hair techniques, here are some of our fantastic learners practicing a long graduation haircut on their blockheads.

Meet The Team - Sally (Teaching Assistant)

"I have spent many years supporting children, young people, and adults with additional needs, including autism, learning difficulties, and challenging behaviours. My experience includes working in schools, residential care, and the community — including three years supporting young adults with learning difficulties. These roles have helped me build a patient, encouraging, and supportive approach, always focused on helping individuals feel confident and included.

I am passionate about creating a positive learning environment where every student has the chance to achieve their potential. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family, and when I get the chance, I love relaxing with a good book."

This week has been great here at RENU Training Academy, we've had some great outcomes, successful assessments and some of the staff even had their hair cut by Zoe's Level 2 Hairdressing group.

Meet The Team - Liz (Post-16 Lead)

"From a young age, I was passionate about working with horses, which led me to study at Rodbaston College in Staffordshire at the age of 16. There, I achieved a National Diploma in Horse Studies as well as British Horse Society Stages 1–3. After gaining practical experience on a dressage yard, I realised my career ambitions were shifting, and I chose to pursue my interest in English by completing a degree at the University of Wolverhampton.

Following graduation, I explored a range of career opportunities before finding my true passion in education and working with young people. I began teaching English and mathematics at North Shropshire College, where I gained valuable classroom experience and a deeper understanding of how education can shape learners’ futures. After a period working in the waste management sector, I was drawn back to teaching, delivering an Access to Higher Education programme for adults.

My career then took me into a care setting in Whitchurch, where I taught English for two years. This role not only allowed me to support learners academically but also highlighted the importance of pastoral care. It was through this experience that I developed a strong commitment to supporting the holistic needs of learners, recognising that emotional and social wellbeing is vital to success.

In September, I joined Renu as Post-16 Lead, with additional responsibility as Pastoral and Safeguarding Lead. My role centres on supporting learners across our sites, ensuring they are listened to, valued, and provided with the opportunities they need to achieve their goals in their chosen vocational pathways. I am passionate about creating an inclusive, supportive environment where every learner can thrive, both personally and academically."
