Not every spot should be extracted 👀

One of the biggest mistakes I see with acne is treating every bump the same way.

When assessing the skin, it’s important to distinguish between active lesions, congestion and healing inflammation.

🔸 Blackheads – open comedones containing oxidised sebum. These may be suitable for controlled extraction when the skin is ready.

🔸 Whiteheads – closed comedones where sebum and dead skin cells are trapped beneath the surface. Depending on their presentation, these may be suitable for extraction.

🔸 PIE (post-inflammatory erythema) – the red/pink marks left behind after inflammation. There is nothing to extract here. Trying to squeeze them can simply create more inflammation.

🔸 Cystic/inflamed lesions – these sit deeper within the skin and generally should not be squeezed or aggressively extracted. Trauma can increase inflammation and the risk of prolonged marks or scarring.

🔸 Healing lesions – sometimes the best treatment is to leave them alone and allow the skin barrier and inflammation to settle.

Good skin treatment isn’t about extracting everything you can see. It’s about knowing what the skin actually needs.

This is why professional skin assessment matters — the same-looking bump can require a completely different approach.

So just putting the feelers out there…

I currently run a beauty business by myself from this beautiful Cabin in Netley Abbey, Southampton, however I will be going on Maternity leave from 1st November therefore the cabin will be just sat there being unused…

So I was wondering if anyone & it doesn’t have the be in the beauty profession, would be looking at wanting to rent out the space for while its unoccupied.
