Mums & Dads can we talk about our daughters and these slick ponytails?
I’ve taught over 1000 parents how to style their children’s hair at my Braid School and have created thousands of hairstyle at my Braid Bar in Hampshire so I hear it all, this is the most common :
“She won’t leave the house unless her hair is frozen with hairspray and her face is snatched with a ponytail so tight she looks like she’s had a mini facelift”
So here’s my go to products and tips to help you achieve the perfect pony without lumps and bumps so you can get out that door in the morning without the meltdowns:
1️⃣Use a ‘small’ amount of eco styler to create slip to smooth out any lumps and bumps. Too much of this product you will leave a white residue that resembles dandruff!
2️⃣Use the appropriate size hairband for the amount of Hair your daughter has, if she’s got a lot of hair you might need to use two hairbands so the ponytail doesn’t slip throughout the day.
3️⃣Use a boar bristle brush to tease out any of the lumps and bumps and scrape that hair smooth into the hairband.
4️⃣After eco Styler you could use a shine n jam oil based gel which doesn’t dry out and will lock in any baby hairs for the entire day and longer.
5️⃣You can finish with a small amount of Got2B freeeze spray to lock in the style but please use this product sparingly as it’s v strong.
6️⃣Wear a silk bonnet or get yourself a silk pillowcase from to protect the hairstyle so you don’t need to redo it over and over again
7️⃣Encourage her to give her hair a break throughout the week and not wear this hairstyle every single day it does pull on the root of the hair significantly and can cause tension alopecia if too tight and worn over and over again..

I started B.WOW as I was fed up of running my business Raz Wright I Braid Bar & Braid School Owner l Braid Educator on my own.
No one to run ideas by, no one to help with the physical and mental load of running my own biz, and definitely no after work drinks or office parties. It’s pretty lonely right ?
It was my business owner gals I met here on insta that started to became ‘my people’ we had a lot in common. We understood each other, the hours spent on socials (not for fun) but essential for marketing, staffing woes, burnout and the guilt of not spending enough time with our loved ones.
B.WOW was created so we could get together in person. For the female founder in her 40’s or 50’s who wants to hang out over breakfast, dinner a walk or a drink. To get out of the digital space and into community.
Real life connections over on-line chats please. We don’t want zoom, digital break out rooms or teams meetings. We want to meet up IRL!
We’ve got so much wisdom and experience between us. What better way to preserve your sanity, grow your business, learn new skills and build your network than with the help of fabulous female founders in the same crazy boat?!

Can we talk about nits for a second.
Every September I get the same messages from mums and dads. Panic stations because their little one is starting school and all they can think about is head lice.
So they want to book a Braid lesson.
I get it. It’s one of those fears that hits different when your child starts mixing with a whole new group of kids every day.
Here’s the thing though. Head lice can’t grip onto hair the same way when it’s braided tight and smooth. They need loose strands to travel and cling onto. Give them nothing to hold onto and you’re already ahead.
My top tips (BTW I started this biz as I was so fearful of nits when my daughter started school. In 14 years she has had them once and that was before I learnt to braid).
Trust me I booked in for my first Braid Lesson straight after that first experience! 🙈
✔️Braid it tight. Not just neat, actually tight. Loose braids still give lice something to grab.
✔️Lock it down with a proper product. I swear by shine n Jam for this exact reason. It smooths every last flyaway and keeps the style locked in all week, not just at school drop off.
✔️No loose flowing hair at school. If it’s down, it’s an open invitation.
✔️Check regularly. Once a week, so it becomes a habit not a chore.
✔️Keep hair tied up for playtime, sleepovers, anywhere heads get close together.
In 14 years my daughter has had head lice once. Once! And that was purely down to the fact her hair was braided for school every single day without fail.

If you’re a mum that can already Dutch. You may already know this. So you can swipe .
For my mum’s that can’t Dutch braid this is a game changer.
Loose braids are what many mums experience.
Loose to me equals nits 🤦🏽♀️ and a braid that’s dropped out by lunch time.
If your braids are loos and baggy and they don’t last the day. You are not placing your hands and knuckles and thumbs in the right position.
Hand and finger position when braiding is so important it’s completely fundamental to the difference between a Braid that is tight, neat and going to last seven days and one that’s going to last half a day.
Thankfully I have created a bonus video that is a standalone education video just on hand and finger position. It’s included in my digital video.
Here on Instagram I share my Braid Bar secrets so if you watch the reel I tell you where to place your hands, fingers and thumbs to ensure the Braid doesn’t lift off and that you get a Braid that is going to last.
