Cloverfields Sports Massage Therapy
Soft Tissue Therapy (Sports Massage) and Remedial Massage in Spalding and the surrounding area including Boston, Holbeach & Crowland.
Applied skillfully, sports massage is one of the most effective therapies for releasing muscle tension and restoring the balance of your musculoskeletal system. Received regularly, it can help prevent injury, improve posture, and help the body heal after an injury. Remember, that sports massage is not always painful, and it doesn't have to hurt to be effective!

Did you know? Massage can help to lower stress levels by releasing endorphins which are natural pain relievers. As a result, it can help to increase feelings of wellbeing, improve your sleep, and relax tense muscles.
It sounds crazy but it’s true!
It’s an easy assumption to make - to run faster you need to train at a faster pace. However, incorporating slower runs can in fact help you to improve whether you are a recreational or competitive runner!
Not only does it reduce the risk of overtraining, it also minimises the risk of injury because your muscles have time to recover.
For those newer to running, this helps you to build up the amount of miles in your legs helping them to adapt to longer distances.
Running slowly keeps the heart rate in the aerobic zone, which means you are taking enough oxygen through the respiratory system to meet the oxygen demands of the working muscles. Therefore, you should experience less fatigue in your muscles allowing you to recover quicker ready for the next run.
So how slow should you be going? Some say to adapt an 80% easy, slow, conversational pace (60-75%); to 20% fast, hard effort runs. So, if you run 30 miles in a week then 24 miles of these should be easy, and 6 miles devoted to speed work. Or if you run 5 days a week, 4 of those should be easy with one harder session.
It’s a hard approach to follow, especially if you have a competitive side to you. Believe me, as an ex sprinter I like to get from A to B as quickly as possible no matter what the distance is! I’ve recently turned to longer distances, and am definitely finding it a challenge to slow myself down. However, I know it works from past experience in sprint training!
I still have a couple of appointments available and cancellations are always possible too!

An interesting an article this morning on a topic I get asked about by many of my clients - there’s ever changing theories and new research emerging all the time about whether to use heat over ice, or vice versa, to aid sports performance and recovery. The debate continues!
Olympic demand for ‘unproven’ ice therapy is unsustainable, scientists say Researchers say 650 tonnes on order for Paris Games is a potential stress on local and regional resources
Good luck to all the Team GB athletes, coaches and support teams who are taking part in the Paris Olympics!
Only two appointments left for July - cancellations possible so get in touch and I’ll do my best to fit you in!

Word of mouth and reviews have been one of the best ways that I’ve gained more clients since moving to the Spalding area 3 years ago. I’ve never liked asking for them but am always grateful for your positive reviews! 😉
Only two appointments now left for this week:
Thursday 27 June - 9.30am & 11am
Whether you’re training for a sporting event; enjoy working out; or don’t even have time to exercise - anyone can feel the benefits of a sports massage! I regularly have clients from all kinds of backgrounds including athletes; office workers; those from the building industry; or those lucky enough to be retired!
Appointments for next week - plenty to choose from at the minute including a few evening slots. I’ve had a few cancellations, grab them while they’re available!
If you’re taking your car for an MOT more than yourself, then you’re not getting a massage regularly enough!
The answer though, does depend on the reason for massage, how often you exercise and if you are training for a sport, but ultimately massage should be used as a prevention for injury rather than reaction to an injury.
Regular check ups, advice on your gym / training programme and massage can prevent small niggles becoming much bigger and more expensive to fix!
As a general rule, for pain relief once a week or fortnight should be sufficient but leave at least three days between massages. For maintenance, then every three or four weeks would be ideal but even 6 - 8 weeks is better than nothing to keep those niggles away!
In recognition of National Carers week, I am offering a 10% discount until the end of June for all unpaid carers.
There are millions of unpaid carers who care for a friend or family member who due to illness, disability, mental health condition or addiction would not cope without their support.
According to Carers UK, “it is estimated that they save the economy £162 million a year – the equivalent of a second NHS. Yet, many carers feel their role is forgotten and invisible
“A staggering 82% of carers surveyed by Carers UK said the impact of caring on their physical and mental health would be a challenge over the coming year, with nearly 60% adding that being valued as a carer would improve their wellbeing.”
Thank you to all the Carers out there!
