The Nail Pain Series – Part 5
5 Signs Your Toenail Needs Professional Attention
It’s been a little while since my last Nail Pain Series post, so instead of jumping in with how ONYFIX Nail Bracing works, let’s do a recap:
“Here’s whats been discussed so far and how to recognise when you actually need to get your toenail looked at”
The five signs I wouldn’t ignore:
1. It hurts when you wear shoes or walk.
Even occasional discomfort can be an early sign that the nail is putting pressure on the surrounding skin.
2. Your nail is becoming increasingly curved.
Pincer, plicated and tile-shaped nails can gradually become more uncomfortable as the sides press into the skin.
3. The same painful corner keeps coming back.
If trimming it provides temporary relief but the pain returns as the nail grows, there may be an underlying reason.
4. The skin is red, swollen or tender.
These can be signs that the nail is irritating or damaging the surrounding skin.
5. There’s bleeding, discharge or possible infection.
At this point, please don’t keep digging at the nail yourself – seek appropriate professional advice.
Recognise any of these signs?
The important thing to remember is that you don’t have to wait until your toenail becomes extremely painful before asking for help and getting it assessed doesn’t automatically mean surgery.
For suitable nails, ONYFIX Nail Bracing may provide a gentle, non-invasive treatment that encourages the nail to grow into a straighter shape over time.
Book a Foot Health Consultation at MEDI-BLISS and let’s find out what’s causing the problem.

The Nail Pain Series – Part 4
“Do All Ingrown Toenails Need Surgery? I’m worried I might need my toenail removed.”
This is one of the reasons you might be putting off getting a painful toenail checked out, but here’s something you may not know: Not every painful toenail needs surgery.
A painful toenail can be caused by many different things, including naturally curved or involuted nails, pressure from footwear, previous nail injuries or the way the foot moves.
It may be that conservative nail trimming is all that’s needed. Alternatively, ONYFIX Nail Bracing can gently encourage a curved nail to grow straighter and remove the pressure on surrounding skin. On the other hand, a classic Ingrown nail may need a referral to a Podiatrist followed by time to heal, and an Onyfix assessment.
ONYFIX isn’t suitable for every situation, which is why an assessment is always recommended. And having your toenail assessed doesn’t mean you’re agreeing to any treatment, be that surgery or not. It simply means finding out what’s causing the problem and understanding your options.
If you’ve been putting off getting a painful toenail checked because you’re worried about surgery, perhaps it’s time to find out what alternatives may be available.
At the MEDI-BLISS Foot Health Clinic, I can assess the nail to establish if it’s Involuted or a classic Ingrown nail. For suitable clients, ONYFIX Nail Bracing can gently encourage an Involuted nail to grow into a straighter shape over time.
If you’ve noticed one toenail becoming increasingly uncomfortable, don’t wait until it’s causing constant pain.

The Nail Pain Series – Part 3
Curved Toenails – More Common Than You Think
Not every painful toenail is the classic ingrown nail where a spiked corner has pierced the skin.
Sometimes the problem is just that the nail has gradually grown more curved.
The Different Types of Curved Toenails
Curved toenails are called ‘Involuted’ nails and there are three common types.
The Pincer Nail
A pincer nail curves in from both sides, almost like it’s trying to pinch the tip of the toe. As the curve becomes more pronounced, the sides of the nail can press deeply into the surrounding skin, making even gentle pressure from footwear uncomfortable.
The Plicated Nail
A plicated nail has one side that curls in more than the other. This often results in discomfort that can easily be mistaken for a classic ingrown toenail. Left untreated this type can continue to curl excessively into a spiral.
The Tile Nail
A tile nail is visually no different from a healthy nail, but what you can’t see is how the sides have sharply turned downwards into a shape that resembles a staple. While this type may not appear as dramatic as a pincer or plicated nail, they can still place pressure on the skin and become very painful over time.
Although these three nail types look different, they all have one thing in common; their shape can be corrected with a nail brace.
You don’t have to assume a painful nail is something you have to live with, because that’s just not the case.
At the MEDI-BLISS Foot Health Clinic, I can assess the nail to establish if it’s Involuted or a classic Ingrown nail. For suitable clients, ONYFIX Nail Bracing can gently encourage an Involuted nail to grow into a straighter shape over time. On the other hand, an Ingrown nail may need a referral to a Podiatrist and time to heal, before deciding if an Onyfix treatment plan is required.
If you’ve noticed one toenail becoming increasingly uncomfortable, don’t wait until it’s causing constant pain.

The Nail Pain Series – Part 2
Why Does An Ingrown Toenail Keep Coming Back?
You’ve had it trimmed. It felt better. Then a few months later, the pain returned.
If you’ve found yourself dealing with the same painful toenail again and again, there is usually a reason.
Recurring ingrown toenails aren’t always caused by the way you cut your nails. In many cases, the problem can be linked to genetics, pressure from footwear, changes following injury or even the way your feet naturally function when you walk.
That’s why simply removing the painful corner doesn’t always stop the problem from returning.
At the MEDI-BLISS Foot Health Clinic, I take time to assess not only the nail itself but also the factors that may be contributing to the problem.
For suitable clients, ONYFIX Nail Bracing can gently encourage the nail to grow into a straighter, less curved shape over time, helping to reduce the pressure that causes discomfort. The image below shows the same big toenail before and after ONYFIX treatment. The end result is pain free toe due to a much wider nail with a less curvature, as the sides of the nail have been lifted out of the surrounding skin.
If you’re tired of the same toenail causing the same problem year after year, it may be time to find out why.

The Nail Pain Series – Part 1
Does your toe hurt when you wear your favourite shoes?
If you’ve started to choose your footwear based on which pair hurts the least, you’re certainly not alone. It’s something I hear from clients far more often than you might think.
Pain around the edge of a toenail isn’t something you should simply put up with. It could be caused by a curved (involuted) nail that’s gradually pressing into the surrounding skin. Left untreated, this can become increasingly painful and may eventually lead to inflammation or infection.
People often avoid seeking help for this condition believing that the only solution is to have the nail surgically removed; but the good news is that not every painful toenail needs surgery.
At the MEDI-BLISS Foot Health Clinic, I use ONYFIX Nail Bracing – a gentle, non-invasive treatment that encourages the sides of a nail to lift and grow into a straighter shape over time. The brace is comfortable to wear and allows you to continue with your normal daily activities.
One of the reasons I enjoy providing this treatment so much is because the results can be truly life-changing. Seeing clients return to comfortable walks, favourite shoes and everyday activities without nail pain is incredibly rewarding.
If your toenail has started to hurt, don’t wait until it becomes a bigger problem. The earlier it’s treated, the more likely you can avoid surgery.
This is the first in a series of posts exploring the causes of painful toenails, the treatment options available and how early intervention can help prevent problems from becoming more serious. Look out for Part 2 – Why Does an Ingrown Toenail Keep Coming Back?

FOOT CARE FOR A LOVED ONE
When you’re looking for professional foot care for a family member it’s important you find the right provider to meet their needs.
You maybe the daughter who’s worried because Mum can’t cut her own toenails anymore.
The husband who notices his wife is avoiding walks because her feet are painful.
The son who wants Dad to stay comfortable, mobile and independent for as long as possible.
Or the partner who simply wants someone they love to feel cared for.
When you’re choosing a foot care professional, you’re not just looking for qualifications or a list of treatments.
You’re looking for someone who will treat them with patience… Someone who won’t rush them… Someone who understands that older people, or those living with health conditions, may need a little more time… Someone who is gentle… Someone who listens.
These values are at the heart of Medi-Bliss.
My foot care appointments are never about getting people in and out as quickly as possible. I deliberately allow longer appointment times so your loved one can settle in, ask questions and receive treatment at a pace that’s comfortable for them.
My motorised treatment couch, the peaceful garden view and the birds visiting the feeders, all help to create a calm, relaxing environment where people can feel at ease.
Many new clients arrive feeling nervous, embarrassed about their feet or anxious about treatment. But they leave knowing they’ve been treated with dignity, kindness and genuine compassion.
Foot care is never just about feet, it’s about helping people feel comfortable, confident and independent. And it’s about giving families peace of mind, knowing the person they care about is in safe, gentle hands.
Feedback from a recent client:
Lynn was absolutely wonderful from start to finish. She treated both me and my mum with such kindness, patience and professionalism. My mum was extremely nervous before the appointment, but Lynn immediately put her at ease with her calm and reassuring manner.
She took the time to explain everything clearly, never rushed us, and made sure my mum felt comfortable throughout. It’s rare to find someone so caring and genuinely compassionate while also being incredibly knowledgeable and professional.
We both left feeling so grateful for the excellent care we received. I would highly recommend Lynn to anyone looking for a podiatrist who truly goes above and beyond for her patients.
I’m so grateful for this lovely review, because it’s confirmation that I’m providing the kindness, professionalism and patient-centred care that I aim for.
(Just for legal clarification: I’m actually Foot Health Practitioner not a Podiatrist)

Summer has arrived and, for many of us, this is probably the one and only time of year that we really take a good look at our feet.
So, tell me… what are yours looking like?
How are your heels looking?
White and flaky? Your skin is extremely dry and struggling to retain moisture.
Hard and yellowish? A layer of callus has built up, often caused by footwear friction or walking barefoot.
Cracked? The skin has lost its elasticity. It’s become too dry and hard, so instead of stretching and bouncing back, it begins to split.
And what about your toenails?
Are they too long because you find them difficult to cut?
Are they uncomfortable because the corners dig into your skin?
Are they looking a little yellow or becoming thicker than they used to be?
If any of this sounds familiar, a Foot Health Consultation at the Medi-Bliss Foot Health Clinic in Woodseaves, Staffordshire, could be the perfect starting point for healthier, happier feet.
Don’t wait until your feet become painful or start affecting your mobility.
Book your appointment today at Medi-Bliss and let’s get your feet summer-ready.

What do your footprints reveal about your feet?
I’ve recently discovered I have a high arch after taking a simple Footprint Test. Like many people, I had always assumed my arches were normal!
Your arch type can affect the way you walk, your balance, how pressure is distributed through your feet and even contribute to aches and pains elsewhere in the body.
The good news is that prescription orthotics can be tailored to support low, high and even normal arches, helping to improve comfort, stability and foot function.
If you’re curious about your own arch type, why not book a Foot Health Consultation at the Medi-Bliss Foot Health Clinic in Staffordshire, and find out what your feet are telling you?
