🎗️ Breast Cancer Awareness Month may be coming to an end but for those of us who’ve been through it the journey doesn’t stop when the month, or the treatment, ends.

In May, I rang the bell to mark the end of radiotherapy, a moment I’ll never forget. I’m so grateful to have reached that milestone but the truth is, it wasn’t really the end.

Since then, I’ve started taking Tamoxifen (an estrogen blocker) which I’ll be on for the next 10 years, and Abemaciclib (a chemotherapy tablet) which I’ll be on for 2 years. These come with their own challenges such as hot flushes, fatigue, nausea and low immune system to name a few.

On top of that, the combination of treatments has put me into medically induced menopause bringing mood swings, brain fog, and joint aches. My surgery has left its mark too with scars, numbness, limited movement, and a constant risk of lymphedema.

The emotional side? That’s something I’m still trying to navigate.

💗 Life after cancer is tough, it’s a whole new chapter. But even with the challenges, I’m endlessly grateful to be here, to have made it through, and to be one of the lucky ones who survived.

This time last year I began chemotherapy. That first cycle absolutely knocked me off my feet and I couldn’t believe how much medication I was sent home with. Within just two weeks my hair started falling out so I decided to take control and go for the head shave.

Heading into my second cycle I felt more confident, thinking I knew what to expect. But nothing could’ve prepared me for what came next! The chemotherapy leaked out of my veins and into the tissue of my hand. What followed was excruciating pain, countless visits to the burns unit, and eventually a PICC line so I could continue treatment.

After four long months of not being able to use my right hand, I needed a skin graft to repair the damage. Not long after that I began the final stage of active treatment in May this year - three weeks of daily radiotherapy.

It’s been one hell of a journey! 🤯

My story continued - June to October 2024 are a bit of a blur! One surgery after another and anything that could go wrong did go wrong! I was at hospital appointments more than I was at home. Although the cancer had spread to my lymph nodes, when these were removed I was lucky that only 1 of 9 lymph nodes had been affected. But even so, it meant that chemotherapy was on the horizon, the one thing I was dreading. Little did I know what was going to happen next!

It’s a long story but let’s start with this. To give some context, I had a breast enlargement in 2022 and when I found a lump in 2023 I was told it was just scar tissue. Despite the fact that there was a history of breast cancer in my family they did not perform a biopsy on the lump 😞 I wish I had been more confident to challenge this. Hindsight is a wonderful thing. In 2024 I found a second lump very close to the original lump and it was eventually confirmed both were invasive hormonal breast cancer. I later went through the hospital complaints procedure and the outcome provided was that a biopsy should have been performed in 2023. I was booked in for a mastectomy and for a sample of lymph nodes to be removed and tested to ascertain whether there was any further spread. Recovery from the mastectomy is a whole different story! To be continued…

I’ll be sharing throughout the month in the hope that it helps someone out there 🩷

✨ A Very Special Golden Ticket ✨

Earlier this year, one of our lovely customers purchased a Chemo Kit for her mum. She adored it, and it even came with one of our golden tickets for semi-permanent brows with .Sadly, her mum has since passed away and with such kindness the family has asked for the voucher to be donated so someone else can enjoy it 💛

In her memory, we’ll be adding this to the next Chemo Kit sold so that another person on their journey can receive this incredible treat.

A huge thank you to this beautiful family for thinking of others at such a difficult time ❤️‍🩹

🌸 I’m Back! 🌸
Sorry I’ve been a little quiet on here lately. The kids’ 6 week summer holiday had me running around like crazy 🙈💛 Between picnics, playdates, and trying to keep everyone entertained, time just flew by!

But now I’m back, refreshed, and so excited to share what’s coming up for Chemo Kits 🖤

Stay tuned ✨
