Having a mental switch off is ok too……..

This right here is my WHY (minus Lucy) this is what I work so hard for….theses moments. 🥰

Ok I have maybe switched off a little too much 🇬🇷 but for me holiday time is my time to have a mental break from business life.

I am over in Greece seeing our daughter who works over here and holidaying with family and friends, and I want to be present for every second, both physically and mentally.

Phone time is minimal, my staff are bloody amazing and running the show back home and this is the first holiday I have ever truly switched off and for that I am very proud.

I’ve even read 2 books that are not personal development and thoroughly enjoyed them. (A Glasgow kiss and what happens in Dubai (IYKYK 😉)

I suppose I am writing this post to say it is ok to need a break from business, it’s ok to switch off and I think it’s also really important.

I’ve been away for 9 days and still have another 5, business is starting to creep into my head again but with a burst of excitement, new ideas and energy but for now that’s all they are because I have a sunbed waiting at the pool and a day of more fun with the family.

Can’t wait to catch up when I’m home, and start bringing my business ideas to life 👋

I attended my friends wedding a few weekends ago. 💒

What a day it was 😍 but it got me thinking 🧐

They literally thought of EVERYTHING, there was endless entertainment throughout the day, a crèche, saxophonist, bagpipes, singers, cheese cart, sweetie cart, caricature, a basket with everything you can think of for a female on a night out and so much more.

They thought about their guests as much as them. Are you starting to see the business link here.

Most business owners don’t go above and beyond, they think of them, filling their diary, making money for them, and yes that stuff is important, but not as important as that client that hands over their hard earned cash 💵

That wedding I will remember forever 🥰🥰🥰🥰

Imagine your clients remembered you forever because you went above and beyond and offered some wow factors……

This is where your client journey comes in, it’s something we continue to try and improve in our Salons because it’s important to us.

What a day yesterday. ✈️

A day I committed to getting up at 3am to fly to London, invest in myself and my future and a day of inspiration.

A day of new connections, and a day with my friend who is also on a mission in business .

I will start implementing to my business some of the things I learned asap 💪🏼

I continue to learn to stay ahead of the game, to continue growing myself and my business and to keep my coaching material the best it can be to pass onto my clients.

I always say if I can take 1 thing away from any courses I attend and implement it my business will continue to move forward.

If I can implement more it’s a bonus and it it will just growing quicker.

We both had fun, and finished the day shattered in the airport drinking fizz 🥂 😂 that went very quickly to both our heads 😵‍💫 😂 plus our flight was delayed 2 hours so more glasses than first anticipated 😂

Lets be honest for a moment. How often do you find yourself daydreaming about the life and business you wish you had?

I'm going to be completely honest. I've been there too. I know what its like to feel trapped in that cycle of "almosts" and "what ifs" its draining. I remember a point in my life of wanting more - not just money but more freedom and fulfilment.

Thats exactly why i stepped back into coaching, because having someone who's been where you are, who's navigated the rough patches you might be in just now makes all the difference.

📖 Story Time: A few years back I was blue lighted to hospital with a suspected stroke, my body was shutting down, I couldn’t talk, and I had lost all sensation on one side of my body. After a 10 day stay in hospital, several scans, spinal testing and baffled Drs I was finally diagnosed with Hemiplegic migraine. My second serious one to date.

Why do I tell you this?

Well this resulted because I was burnt out. Completely and utterly burnt out.

please don’t do a me, if you don’t listen to your body it will eventually make you.

Business owners are the worst for it, we rarely put ourself first, we try and juggle a million and ten things between business, family, kids, housework, gym, social life, etc etc I know you have been there and nodding along right now.

I have three things that help me to keep my energy levels high and hopefully avoid ever being in that situation again and I want to share them with you:

1️⃣ the most obvious one SELFCARE- it’s easy to do but also easy not to do. For me my 5am routine and the gym are my self care. For you it might be a walk, a massage, getting your nails done, or even just a cuppa ☕️ on the couch with a book 📕, whatever it is get it in the diary first. You are a priority.

2️⃣ Set boundaries, this isn’t what you think, you have to set clear boundaries with YOURSELF! Set clear boundaries for work hours and stick to them. After work close the laptop and even put your phone on do not disturb, nothing is that important that it can’t wait until tomorrow.

3️⃣ work smarter not harder. Probably the biggest piece of advice I can give to you. Simplify things, systemise it if you can, it will free your mind and your schedule. It will give you the time to focus on doing the things you enjoy 😊

Here’s my final thoughts on this. Burnout is NOT a badge of honour, if you implement these three things your body will thank you for it.

When you find work life balance it’s a kinda different happiness 😄 a lighter happiness 🥰

I didn’t realise there was a different kind of happiness, I’ve never been miserable at work, I’m always happy (most of the time, obviously I have my moments 😜) but I was stressed and not switching off, I kept using the excuse “but I love my business, I don’t mind”

But actually that become tiring and isn’t sustainable.

You need time away from the business, thinking time 🤔

When you find balance it opens up new opportunities, it gives you “you time” , family time and business time. It’s all separate, it’s happy times minus the stress.
